Holmes celebrated her birthday like any other morning in New York City. And like any other morning, the “Our Town” actress stayed true to her winter style pillars: an understated yet chic coat, the top denim trend of the day, and a sleek leather tote bag.

A black wool wrap coat and matching black beanie were layered over a pair of down-to-earth, straight-leg Nili Rotan jeans, a style that dominated the runways and Holmes' everyday wardrobe for spring 2025. Such coats usually come with a coordinating belt, but Holmes said, “This is the day!” and replaced it with a metallic gold “coronation” belt from Maison Maille with dangling chain detailing.

Holmes carried what looked like a wrapped gift in a black leather tote, which, from a distance, resembled the vintage Chloé style she carried with a denim blazer in November. Her bag was perfectly coordinated with sleek, understated black leather ankle boots. If I had to describe this entire look in two words, they would be “Katie-ness.” Of course, Holmes occasionally wears a statement red Mary Jane or wicked green coat. Occasionally, she will wear a summer staple like Bermuda shorts in the winter with knee-high boots. But overall, she prefers simple, tailored, neutral, and timeless.
