Selena Gomez and Addison Ray send the stardust nail trend into your orbit
A new trend has emerged in celebrity nail art. As a lifelong obsessive of glittery polishes, I couldn't be more pleased to see this trend in a season that's all about moody red nails and naked manicures. As much as I'd love to try some of the trends from Haley Bieber's fall manicure menu, I'm not the kind of girl to ask for maple leaf brown or pumpkin spice orange at the salon. When it comes to nails, more is more is the way I think.
That's why I'm overjoyed by the shiny silver Supernova manicure Selena Gomez wore to the Academy Museum Gala on Saturday, October 19. Her rocker-chic red carpet look, paired with a custom Alaia halter gown cut from deep space blue velvet and a brand new lob haircut, was like a transmission especially for me. Needless to say, when nail artist Tom Bacik showed off the look later in the day, I fell in love at first sight. And it can be recreated with just one polish color, Cosmic Silver, newly released by Olive & June.
When Addison Ray posted her iridescent silver nails on her Instagram a few days later, it felt like a cosmic affair. The pearly look, created by nail artist Natalie Minerva, perfectly matched the ethereal vibe of Addison's upcoming single “Aquamarine.”
“Aquamarine's ‘The World is My Oyster’ nails were revitalized,” the rising pop star captioned the selfie on Instagram. As you may recall, oyster nails rose in popularity last fall and winter, ahead of the broader mermaid-core trend catalyzed by Disney's live-action Little Mermaid reboot. This year's trend is a bit more minimalist than the three-dimensional abalone shell-inspired versions seen throughout 2023.
The great thing about Stardust nails is that you don't necessarily have to go to a salon to get the look; Londontown's Starry Chrome and Nailberry's Star Dust are perfect for recreating a silver supernova manicure at home. For funkier, more alien-inspired silver Stardust nails, look no further than Mooncat. This brand makes some of the most interesting shimmer shades I've ever used, and while I already own and love Ghosts of Hecate, I'll be collecting Pixiestick and Head in the Clouds soon.
Do yourself a favor and grab some of these while the trend is still getting ready to launch; remember the global chrome powder shortage in 2020 brought on by the glazed donut nail trend?
