Meghan Markle's Best Style Moments After Retirement from Senior Royal

Since stepping down as a senior member of the British royal family, Meghan Markle has turned to personal style. Royal fashion can be restrictive, allowing the Duchess of Sussex to branch out into new brands, designers, and looks (shorts, low necklines). Nevertheless, Princess Meghan's core style remains the same. She mixes luxury and affordable items, including some of her longtime favorites from well-known brands, and uses a lot of monotone. Below are Meghan Markle's 32 best outfits since retiring from the senior royal family.

Walking the red carpet at the Variety Power of Women event, Meghan wore a simple but chic Proenza Schouler off-the-shoulder gown for her rare public appearance. The dress reportedly cost nearly $1,400 when it was featured on Neiman Marcus.

This was Meghan's last event as senior royalty, and she looks at ease and happy in the photos. She wears a bold emerald Emilia Wickstead dress (with a dramatic cape), a William Chambers hat, nude Aquazzura pumps, and a Gabriella Hearst mini bag.

Meghan continued to do the "all matching (post) royal style" very well at public events, including this head-to-toe red outfit (ribbon blouse and matching pants by Another Tomorrow, heels by Aquazzura). During this visit to Manchester, he also gave a speech in front of the attendees.

Meghan's first public appearance of 2021, and her first since leaving the UK (and shortly after the birth of her daughter, Lilibet, in June 2021), was in a classic navy suit. The coat was by Giorgio Armani and the pumps were by Aquazzura, but my favorite part is that Harry and I are matching.

This Louis Vuitton dress had a cool off-the-shoulder shape with a slit above the ankle. It's a chic choice (as you'll see elsewhere on this list), although we sometimes see Princess Meghan in formal wear with dresses that are a bit shorter. The earrings are by CH Carolina Herrera and the aquamarine ring is Princess Diana's.

For her keynote address, "Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On and Off the Screen," Princess Meghan wore a gorgeous, floor-length outfit. It looks like a dress, but it is actually silk separates from Julieva Heritage, with subtle pinstripes.

This tonal outfit consisted of tan Gabriella Hearst pants, a chocolate Lajance blouse, and Manolo Blahnik pumps (accessorized with simple gold jewelry). Meghan has been a fan of long inseam pants long before she became a royal, but she has worn many styles since 2021.

Some of Meghan's most striking styles have come from her attendance at the Invictus Games, and 2022 was no exception. Brandon Maxwell's jacket was a statement piece paired with skinny jeans and Manolo Blahnik pumps.

I love these wide-leg boyfriend jeans by Meghan. The black bouclé wool tweed jacket is from Céline, and the matching black Céline bag (nice, I know).

Princess Meghan looks better in tonal colors than anyone else. She paired her silk trench coat with paper bag pants. The classic Aquazzura pumps and Lanvin earrings. Unusually for her, it's a cool silhouette.

Visiting Vancouver a year before the Invictus Games, Meghan wore a camel Sentaler coat with matching belt, a tonal BleuSalt top, black Le Ligne denim, CO black riding gloves, and (my favorite) camel Max Mara gloves, a truly apres-ski outfit was chosen.

For the opening ceremony of the 2022 Invictus Games, Meghan wore a cream off-the-shoulder Kaite bodysuit (possibly my favorite top she's ever worn), black pants, Manolo Blahnik pumps, a diamond-studded Cartier necklace (stunning).

Proof that Meghan's winter style is just as fabulous as her casual summer wardrobe, this Calvin Klein cream puffer coat, CO white sweater, white frame jeans, black Burberry beanie, and Sorel snow boots are the very the definition of quiet, expensive chic. [The puffer coat is Hermes, the beanie and scarf are both Aritzia, the jeans are La Ligne, the winter boots are Kamik, and (chef's kiss style) the phone case is Bottega Veneta.

To attend the prestigious event, Meghan went for an extremely classic all-black look: matching black Givenchy blouse and skirt, black Manolo Blahnik pumps, and a Mulberry tote bag (actually dark brown leather). Simple, minimalist accessories worked wonders.

When she and Prince Harry visited Nigeria in 2024 in association with the Invictus Games Foundation, Meghan wore a Heidi Merrick "Windsor" dress, Lanvin earrings (vintage), Cartier jewelry, and Emme Parsons sandals She started her trip wearing.

This is a gorgeous leaf print Johanna Ortiz dress with a low neck and peephole detail, which Meghan paired with Heidi Merrick sunglasses, Jennifer Meyer earrings, and Emme Parsons sandals. Fun fact: The Invictus Games colors are black and white.

Believe it or not, this is actually a J. Crew white cardigan with black piping and brass buttons (I love it when she picks something from a retail brand), Staud shorts, Givenchy belt, Chanel cap toe slingbacks and paired with diamond studs by Anita Ko.

Megan is wearing a Zara romper here. Same as us. Of course, she also wears Saint Laurent sandals, a Sesta Collective crossbody, a Brilliant Earth pendant, and Bottega Veneta hoop earrings (not pictured, but her Clewe sunglasses), all very luxurious and cool.

This is from the 2023 Invictus Games, a two-tone denim shirtdress by Carolina Herrera and (as always) pin-heeled pumps. Casually, Meghan is wearing matching shoes with Harry [laughs]. Honestly, this is the perfect casual-chic outfit to wear to a volleyball game.

It's a little hard to see in these photos (and there aren't many full body shots of her outfit), but this is actually a gray midi dress from Toteme. I love the halter neck style, the cool, simple look, the simple gold jewelry and the soft hair.

Honestly, this seems like the platonic ideal of work attire. Here, Princess Meghan wears an Altuzarra jumpsuit with folded off-the-shoulder detailing (her favorite, and for good reason) with nude Aquazzura pumps and gold and emerald jewelry by Logan Hollowell and Sarah Hendler.

During her trip to Nigeria, Megan graced us with a beautiful all-white suit. It is from Altuzarra, and we love the fitted tank she paired underneath and the flared shape of the pants. Shoes are suede Manolo Blahnik pumps, earrings are Ariel Gordon, and necklace is Aurato.

Sitting next to David Oyelowo and Meathan Harriman (at a Netflix event talking about the movie "The After"), Meghan is wearing a chocolate brown turtleneck and rich brown suit (the blazer is Valentino apparently), but my favorite part is her red nail polish.

I have to admit, I really love Meghan in a pantsuit. Here she is on her way to the Invictus Games reception, wearing a white Valentino suit with gold accessories. While Meghan doesn't always pair an oversized long blazer, I am genuinely in love with this structured yet breezy look.

For the first red carpet of 2024, Meghan went all out in a gorgeous black ball gown-inspired look. Technically, it was a cami and matching skirt, which Vogue tentatively identified as Carolina Herrera. It's a nice casual touch, yet chic enough for a formal event.

This strapless white maxi dress is from St. Louis. It's agni, and its simplicity is perfect (in fact, it gives me flashbacks to the simplicity of her wedding dress). She's wearing vintage Dior earrings, nude Aquazzura heels, and a cross necklace that belonged to Princess Diana.

Honestly, I wish I had more pictures of this gorgeous red hem ruffle dress (from Orile). She wore (as always) Aquazzura pumps and jewelry by Kimye, Ariel Gordon, and Logan Hollowell. She doesn't always show us such big statement colors, but when she does, they are fabulous.

To be exact, this is a royal re-wear; she wore it for Archie's birthday in 2020 and for the announcement of her second child pregnancy in 2021. The silk Carolina Herrera column gown is paired with lots of gold jewelry, including a gold-colored necklace by Aurato and earrings by Jennifer Meyer. The green shawl was a gift from Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the governor's wife.

Johanna Ortiz's beige printed halter dress looks great on Meghan, especially the scarf detail at the throat and the bold V-neck. She appears to be wearing Burberry Prorsum heels, Heidi Merrick sunglasses, and jewelry by Cartier, Lorraine Schwartz, and Ariel Gordon.

I love this cut-out Cult Gaia dress (the style is called "Raylene" and the color is apparently "peacock blue"). I paired it with traditional aquazzura pumps, Kimai earrings, and Cartier jewelry. My favorite detail is the translucent dress detail at the legs.

Maybe it's because they look like they love each other, but this is one of my favorite photos of Harry and Meghan. She wore a strapless gold Johanna Ortiz dress in brocade material with Tom Ford heels, a CH Carolina Herrera clear clutch (not pictured), J. Crew earrings, and a Cartier bracelet. Perfect.
