Altuzarra, a fashion brand synonymous with strong, sexy silhouettes topped with well-traveled flair, has collaborated with the ultimate independent seller marketplace to launch a lust-worthy home collection (opens in new tab).

The collaboration features the work of eight artisans who Joseph Altuzarra collaborated with to create his dream home accessories. From tie-dyed notebooks to crocheted stones to the chicest dog bed imaginable, the collection includes a nod to the designer's eclectic fashion aesthetic and his own personal comfort.

We caught up with Altuzarra on the day of the presentation to learn more about his Etsy obsession (phew, we're not alone. Still, they're a chic bunch) and talked about how this collaboration came about.

Joseph Altuzarra: I've been a big fan of Etsy for a long time. I love researching on the site and discovering rare and special things that you can't find anywhere else. Over the years, I have been inspired by the many artisans on Etsy, so when I started thinking about branching out into home decor, Etsy seemed like the perfect partner. I started by selecting some of my all-time favorite makers, including a potter, a crocheter, and an artisan who makes dog beds and pillows, and contacted them all to see if they were interested in collaborating. It was a very organic process.

JA: The collection represents the Altuzarra worldview. The foundation of the collection is our signature color, "cognac," a warm brown that we have used since the brand's inception in 2008. By layering a rich, textured collection on top of it, we wanted to make it comfortable and effortless, yet sophisticated and unique. I wanted it to feel like a collector's home, as if I had traveled the world and found the most beautiful basket in Israel, the most unique candelabra in France, or the most unusual crocheted stone in America. I have always been inspired by craftsmanship, so this collection as a whole is truly a celebration of craft and handwork. I started each project by sharing the collection and brand mood board and asking each designer to think about how they would express that mood through their handiwork. Rather than coming to the table with a specific idea, I listened to their interpretation of the brand, discussed different ideas from there, looked at prototypes, and made changes.

JA: It's hard to choose. To be honest, I intend to buy all the pieces for my home. Because I am constantly drawing and writing down what inspires me. I also love coasters and placemats. Because they remind me of the Altuzarra espadrille bags. Then there are the beautiful ceramics made by Sara Paloma, decorated with braided leather, which are breathtaking.

JA: I think the times we live in emphasize the importance of home. I believe that the space we live in and the objects and furniture that surround us have a great impact on our state of mind and mental health. That is true for myself as well. For the past few weeks, I have been "nesting" in a sense. I am trying to make my surroundings as comfortable and pleasant as possible, both for my family and for me. This is because small business is woven into the fabric of the communities in which we live, and by supporting small business, we foster local economies, keep money close at hand, and support our neighborhoods and communities. We are living in a time that is devastating to our economy, especially small businesses. Yet these businesses are necessary, and we all play a part in their survival. They invent, they make things, they take risks, they create and innovate despite the uncertainty.

JA: For me, home is a space of love, acceptance, and safety. I have really tried to nurture that feeling during this difficult time and create an environment that brings joy and comfort to my family and me. There is a lot of uncertainty, but I believe that together we can overcome this and come out of it stronger as a community.
