Sarah Ferguson reveals that she and Queen Camilla are “very close” despite the fact that Princess Diana was her “best friend.
Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana were sisters-in-law and friends who married into the royal family in the 1980s. Although they have had their ups and downs over the years, Ferguson called Diana her “best friend” in a recent interview with The Sunday Times. However, it turns out that Ferguson is now “close” to an unexpected royal family member.
The Duchess of York, 65, told the magazine that she is good friends with Queen Camilla, although the queen famously had an affair with Diana's husband Prince Charles for years.
“We are very close now because Queen Camilla was close to my mom,” Ferguson said of Camilla, who was close to the Duchess' late mother, Susan Barrantes.
However, the Duchess of York also told the Sunday Times that she continues to “support” her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, acknowledging the strangeness of the situation. 'Diana has been my best friend since I was 14,' she said. 'So it's a very big deal that the queen and I are close now.'
Of Queen Camilla, Ferguson said, “She's rather lovely and reminds me of my mom. I admire the extraordinary support she gives to this country.”
Since the accession of King Charles and Queen Camilla, the Duchess of York has returned to several events, including participating in the traditional Christmas Walk in 2023.
“I want to do as much as I can for the queen,” Ferguson told The Sunday Times. 'I want her to do more.'
Given Prince Andrew's recent “Chinese spy” scandal, that may be unlikely. A royal source told the Daily Beast that the Duke of York is “done.” The source added, “You would have thought it would be hard to find a way to make things worse, but somehow he's done it.”
And “Hello! reported that the Duke and Duchess of York may not attend Christmas at Sandringham this year, and that both Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice will spend the vacation with their in-laws.
