Gracie Abrams Reveals Behind the Scenes of the Last Day of the Elas Tour

If you've ever gotten emotional on the last day of school, you should have a pretty good idea what the atmosphere was like backstage on the final day of Taylor Swift's record-breaking Eras tour, according to Gracie Abrams.

The “That's So True” singer opened 49 shows on the Eras tour, including the final show of the tour in Vancouver on December 8, and gave a glimpse of what it was really like to be part of the grand finale of the historic tour in a new interview with Nylon. And, as Abrams explains, it was indeed “the last day of school,” with copies of Swift's Eras tour book serving as yearbooks.

“Everyone cried all day. Backstage it was like the last day of school,” Abrams explained. 'Everyone was walking around with their [Eras Tour] books and signing each other's books. Everyone was walking around with a champagne pen.”

“I am moved, grateful, and shocked that we as a global community can no longer experience that source of light,” Abrams said of the end of the Eras Tour era.

Abrams further explained how the iconic tour affected her even when she was not performing as an opening act.

“I was absorbing every moment of her show, too. I basically studied her show for a year and a half. Every time I fronted her, I watched and learned. Every time we had a conversation about the weather, I learned from her,” she said of the experience, adding, ”I even watched live streams of shows I wasn't in.”

In addition to serving as an opening act, Abrams joined Swift onstage at the main show more than once during the Eras tour; in July 2023, Swift performed an acoustic “Surprise Songs” set with Abrams and performed a duet of Abrams' song “I Miss You, I'm Sorry,” and as recently as November 2024, Abrams performed a mashup of Swift's “Out of the Woods” and Abrams' “Us” on stage in Toronto.

“To see someone in a stadium with the ability to make you feel like it was just you and her in there was very important to me,” Abrams told Who What Wear in September of his experience performing with Swift on the “Eras” tour.
