Sabrina Carpenter Says 'Bed Chem' Was Initially About Sleepovers with Friends
Sabrina Carpenter is aware that she is known for being “blatantly horny,” but one of her most sensual songs on her album Short n' Sweet had a much more innocent beginning than you might expect.
Before Carpenter performed “Bed Chem” at the NPR Tiny Desk Concert, she explained that the song's origins are actually from a much less sexual place than many might imagine.
Carpenter, dressed in a lovely, pallid blue pleated shift and shorts, shone in contrast to her all-white backing band as she explained the song's innocent origins.
“Some of you know me for being blatantly horny, but it's actually not that simple,” she explained. 'It's really a beautiful, happy coincidence.'
“I have a good friend, her name is Paloma, and we're staying at AirBnB for the weekend and sharing this king bed,” she continued.
Singer continued, adding that her friends had never had a sleepover before and that “it was kind of a test of our friendship.”
“We both just closed our eyes and went to bed. No one kicked, no one snored. And we both woke up the same way.” At that point, her friend said, “We have a really good bedchem.”
Carpenter put the idea into action after meeting a man. Thus was born the “bedchem.”
Carpenter performed songs from his albums, including “Taste,” “Please Please Please,” “Slim Pickins,” “Espresso,” and “Juno.”
