Katie Holmes Convinced the Warm-weather Bermuda Shorts Trend is Coming
When Katie Holmes loves a certain denim trend or tote bag, she's all about the relationship. Rain or shine, the “Dawson's Creek” native always finds a way to wear what she wants, whether it's practical or not.
Never has her disregard for the weather been more evident than when the Broadway star stepped out in blue Bermuda shorts on December 8 in the middle of winter. Of course, the street style icon found a clever way to keep her petal pushers warm with translucent black tights and a black double-breasted coat.
Holmes is not the first celebrity to continue the revival of summer Bermuda shorts this season. A few days earlier, Rihanna winterized her gray denim Bermuda shorts with cowhide boots and fur gloves. And in November, fellow pop star Charli XCX took a similar approach to winterizing the jorts trend with slouchy black boots and a fur jacket.
Holmes graced her take on the trend with a trenchcoat-colored button-down, black beanie, tortoiseshell cat-eye sunglasses, and pilgrim-style black square-toe loafers. Of course, Holmes can't be without her Birkin bag these days: the Le Cambon 35 by Manu Atelier. The taupe suede color she's carrying is sold out, but the smooth black leather of the same design is still available.
Tibi's creative director, Amy Smilovic, has always extolled the virtues of layering as a way to wear more pieces throughout the year rather than confining your wardrobe to a specific season. And Katie Holmes expresses that perspective very well by mixing in Bermuda shorts. Just promise me that when the temperature drops, you'll look for higher denier tights for a warmer, thicker, more protective fit. There is no shorter road to misery than exposed knees on a cold day.
