How will the Royal Family's Christmas this year be different due to Prince Charles and Kate Middleton's illness?
This year's Royal Family Christmas at Sandringham will be very different from what the invited guests will look like.
As Prince William revealed earlier this week when he visited soldiers and their families in Bulford, Wiltshire, far more people than usual have been invited to celebrate Christmas with the Royal Family this year.
“We are in Sandringham, Norfolk. Christmas will be 45 years old. It will be noisy, not quiet,” he explained during his visit, according to People, later admitting that he was not yet ready for the festivities. 'Are you ready for Christmas?'
According to The Sun, the Crown Prince also “told another table that he was looking forward” to Christmas “in one room” with his “normally dispersed” 45 family members.
While this may sound stressful after a tough year for the royal family, with both Prince Charles and Kate Middleton undergoing cancer treatment, BBC royal correspondent Jenny Bond said that the increased list of invited guests may be because they have both had a tough year.
“After the year they've had, I'm sure it means the world to the King and Queen that as many families as possible attend Christmas,” the royal expert explained, according to the Mirror. 'And as the number of young people grows, the celebrations become increasingly child-centered. That is what Christmas should be about.”
And even if having extra guests around becomes overwhelming for Kate, she and William have three children, Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (9), and Prince Louis (6), to spend more private family time with, There is always the option of retreating to Amer Hall, Bond says. 13]
“If Catherine's parents are there, they will certainly stay at Ammer Hall,” Bond said, explaining that the Middletons are the only additional guests who might stay at Will and Kate's Sandringham residence.
“I don't think Princess Catherine will feel like entertaining a lot of people at the Hall yet, so it will be just close family. The Yorks will be at Wood Farm,” Bond added.
“But wherever anyone is, I'm sure it will be a Christmas where the whole family will unite around Charles and Camilla, William and Catherine, and be eager to put this year behind them and cheer them on for the brighter years ahead.”
