Florence Pugh shows off her shocking hair transformation before her new movie.
Florence Pugh is the queen of the edgy blonde cut, rocking the tousled style without overdoing it on the red carpet or in playful social media posts. But while you might think of her as a blonde bombshell, the Oppenheimer actress has experimented with everything from pink hair to spiky Y2K styles to a brown look that totally buzzed at the 2023 Met Gala.
Now, the star seems to have temporarily returned to the shaved aesthetic, as she revealed a dramatic buzz cut on Instagram on October 17 while promoting her new film, “We Live In Time.” In Reel, Pugh sat in the back of a car, running her hands over her freshly shaved head, She revealed to her assistant, Francesca “Chessie” Wilton, that her family was unaware of her major transformation.
“‘We Live in Time’ is premiering at LFF in London right now, and I'm curating a special carousel, so I wanted to share this one I just found. This is literally the first time I've seen it and realized that Chessie and I forgot to tell our families,” she captioned the post.
The Black Widow star gave fans a closer look at the cut and shared the meaning behind her look by sharing both a carousel of photos on her Instagram feed and some insights on her Stories on October 20.
“This is the last picture I took with my hair,” she wrote below the photo, which shows her turning to the side to show off her blonde locks. 'It was truly an honor and a privilege to play this role. I am just so grateful. I am so grateful."
In the film, which opens Friday, October 18 and stars Andrew Garfield as her love interest, Pugh plays a woman battling terminal ovarian cancer and explained that her shaved hairstyle was for that reason.
Sadly for buzzcut fans, her short look is not here to stay: at a September event for the film, she was already rocking beachy, chin-length waves (and a head-turning, sheer black lace Dior outfit), proving that the cut was already on the way to growing out.
And while she didn't appear on the red carpet at the recent BFI London Film Festival premiere of “We Live In Time,” that didn't stop Garfield from making sure her co-stars were included.
He carried a fellow cardboard to the red carpet, struck several hilarious poses with a paper pew, and brought her up on stage to talk about the film with her pretend co-star, who was wearing the edgy black lace Dior look she wore in September.
