Yes, Netflix announced the renewal of Season 2 on October 15, 2024, just one week after the Season 1 finale; according to Variety, “Cooking Class Wars” was the “No. 1 on Netflix's global Top 10 TV (non-English) rankings for three consecutive weeks and is more popular than “Singles Inferno” and “Physical: 100,” according to the Korea Times. According to the Korea Times, the series has been a huge hit in Korea, with many chefs' restaurants seeing a surge in reservations after the show aired. With this swift renewal, “Cooking Class Wars” will follow in the footsteps of Netflix's hit Korean reality shows that have become annual must-attend events for Korean entertainment fans: “Single's Inferno” and The second season of “Physical: 100” was rebroadcast about a year after it premiered. If “Cooking Class Wars” follows the same trajectory, fans can expect new episodes in the fall of 2025.
Like most competition shows, “Cooking Class Wars” is expected to recruit new talented chefs from Korea, with only judges Baek Jung Won and Ahn Sung Jae returning to lead the show. However, it is possible that season 1 contestants will make a comeback in season 2.
The first episode began with a qualifying challenge in which Black Spoon chefs were narrowed down from 80 to 20, with the remaining chefs competing against award-winning White Spoon chefs, just as “Physical:100” Season 2 brought back fan favorite Hong Bum-suk, Cooking Class Wars” Season 2 could mean redemption for the yet-to-be-seen chefs who didn't get a chance to shine in Season 1.
According to the Korea JoongAng Ilbo, the series' creative team has similar thoughts. Co-producers Kim Hak-min and Kim Eun-ji, while speaking to local media, said that the team has already compiled a list of chefs they would like to appoint, and there are some surprising names on it. (We expect casting to be easier in the next season, and we plan to actively incorporate viewer comments to create a show that will receive more love,” Kim said. The producer said of the casting for the show, “More important than the editing is the material. It's about the people in the show, their stories, and their journeys. What we do is put it in the frame of the camera. We wanted to respect everyone and not try to exaggerate anything.”
