Kylie Jenner's New Nails Declare 2010s Taupe Manicure Revival

Between her social media and her family's reality show, Kylie Jenner shares a lot of herself with the world. But over the years of following the beauty mogul, I've learned that looking at her nails is the quickest way to find out what's really going on with her. For example, when Jenner started dating actor Timothée Chalamet after years of dating rapper Travis Scott, she opted for short manicures and romantic, feminine colors.

And now, Jenner seems to be in the midst of another beauty vibe shift. Or rather, a return to form. Earlier this month, the mother of two showed off her vibrant teal hair on Instagram. For the occasion, she had nail artist Zora Ganzoligto apply OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark. This self-referential throwback seemed like an isolated affair, however, until I spotted her latest manicure: a shiny taupe off-tip square that bears a striking resemblance to Essie's Chinchily, another defining shade of the 2010s.

“Cozy time,” Jenner captioned the clip on her Instagram story, in which she is seen cuddling with longtime friend Stassi Karanikolaou under a gray blanket that matches her fall nails.

I don't think it's a coincidence. Like I said, when it comes to Kylie Jenner, the manicure says it all, and seeing her return to 2010s trends makes me wonder if she'll be re-releasing products and shades from the early days of Kylie Cosmetics. Given the resurgence of the indie-sleaze aesthetic in fashion, the move certainly makes sense: the “Posie K” lip kit launched on Valentine's Day 2016, along with leopard print, oversized bags, tights, and low-rise jeans in 2024. I'm not opposed to a surprise comeback.

Then again, there are some 2010 beauty trends that I really hope remain in the past. Let's hope Jenner has long since forgotten about crackle nails.
