Kaos” Season 2: Everything We Know
Spoilers for Kaos Season 1 On August 29, 2024, Netflix premiered a new favorite show for Greek mythology fans: “Kaos,” created by Charlie Covell of The End of the F***ing World, is a modern-day version of the famous ancient Greek story It is an ensemble drama about a group of mortals who rewind the end of the rule of Olympus. This dark comedy is a brilliant retelling of a centuries-old tale, and even non-fans will enjoy the latest must-see TV series about a group of underdogs who stand up to a cruel, megalomaniacal, and power-hungry leader.
“Chaos” Season 1 closes with a few hovering plot points that indicate an epic battle of the gods is at hand. Now that the series has been out for a few days, fans are eagerly awaiting (again, guiltily) the news that a second season of “Kaos” is in the works; everything we know about “Kaos” Season 2, including who of the stellar “Kaos” cast is likely to return Read More...
Netflix has yet to announce whether “Kaos” will return for Season 2. But things look good for the series: it debuted in the top 10 of the streaming giant's most-watched shows list, only to be surpassed by an unscripted show. Also, Kovell's previous Netflix series “The End of the F***ing World” aired for two seasons, so hopefully “Kaos” will follow suit.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan UK, Kovell confirmed that he has yet to hear anything from Netflix, but that “they were very cooperative.” The creator added, “My dream was three seasons [of Chaos].” He stated, “I have a lot of ideas and a strong sense of what I want to do with it.”
“There is definitely more. I also didn't want to have a completely cliffhanger ending,” the showrunner continued. 'We want it to be reasonably satisfying as a season one. Because I want to do more and I want to work with those actors and that team. It's a little dream come true.”
Timing mostly depends on when Netflix gives the go-ahead, but we can get an idea of production time by looking at season one: according to Deadline and IMDb, “Chaos” began filming in Spain in late summer 2022, with reshoots or May 2023 and finished filming in May 2023. (Fun fact: Hugh Grant was originally cast as Zeus, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.)
Judging by these dates (and the state of the television industry as a whole), it is likely that new episodes of “Chaos” will not hit the screens until late 2026.
For a show about Greek mythology, a surprisingly large number of characters made it through season one of “Chaos” alive (or at least without being mummified), so it is likely that many of the show's biggest stars will return once the show is renewed. Among the big names who will likely return are: Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, Janet McTeer as Hera, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Rakhi Ayoola as Persephone, Dionysus Nabhan Rizwan, and Stephen Dillane as Prometheus.
As for humans, we can also expect Aurora Perrineau as Lidi, Misia Butler as Caenaeus, Killian Scott as Orpheus, Leila Farzad as Ari, Debi Mazar as Medusa, Ramon Tikaram as Charon, Billy Piper as Cassandra
Kaos Season 1 ends with the title prophecy (“A line will appear, order will decline, the clans will fall, and Kaos will reign”) shared by Zeus, Lidi, Kaeneus, and Ali, which begins to unfold. The great secret that Zeus and the gods have kept is that man will not be reborn through the frame. Instead, humans are mummified in the world of nothingness (or, in effect, underground in the underworld), and their souls are turned into the water of Miander, which the gods drink to maintain their immortality. In other words, humans worship the gods to have a better chance in the next life, but the gods just play with them and consume them as mortal toys.
That changes when Kaineus follows his mother through the frame, a white light appears on his neck, and his soul is returned to his body, then sent to nothingness. Eventually he learns that he can restore his soul when he awakens his mother, and Hades, who was nearby, learns this as well. With this newfound power, Kaineus takes on a mission for Season 2.
Cassandra tells this to Liddy. The prophet says, “You shall go to the ants and free the living. Kaeneus will do the same to the dead."
The prophet says, ”You must go to the ants and free the living.
While Lidi, Kaeneus, and the ants are dealing with human affairs, the newly freed Prometheus declares all-out war on Zeus, who sits on the throne of his enemies. Prometheus is just one of the gods Zeus must deal with, for his entire family has turned against him. Hera takes Tacitus to her children and finally leaves her husband. Hades tries to restore order in the underworld and repair its framework, and Dionysus falls newly in love with Ari and goes to Herakleion's palace. Poseidon will break his heart with Hera.
Among these cliffhangers, Zeus arrives at the throne room and finds another surprise besides the freed Prometheus: the king of the gods will bleed. The king of the gods shed blood. Prometheus says. This is what has happened. Chaos is coming”
