Meet “Love is Blind,” UK hosts Matt and Emma Willis

“Love is Blind” is back early for reality show fans, though not in the form American viewers know it. This August, Netflix unveiled “Love is Blind”: the latest in a franchise in which single people fall in love with “strangers” and sign up to (possibly) get married.

To spearhead the series, the streaming giant has found an attractive Love Is Blind: in the UK, it has found an attractive cast of 30 bachelors, set up pods and couple vacations across Europe, and familiar faces to TV fans across the pond The team recruited two hosts who are familiar faces to TV fans across the pond. Emma and Matt Willis, hosts of Love Is Blind, are the British stand-ins for Nick and Vanessa Lashay: not only have this couple and their parents been together for nearly 20 years, but they also have extensive reality TV experience. Matt Willis, 41, is a London-born musician who rose to fame as a member and co-founder of Busted, a British band that in the early 2000s was called a boy band but today is recognized as a pop-punk band. Along with members Charlie Simpson and James Bourne, he served as bassist and co-vocalist; the BRIT Award-winning trio debuted in 2000, sold over 5 million records worldwide, and had four UK number one singles before disbanding in 2005.

Since then, Matt has released music as a solo artist, television personality, and actor. He won Season 6 of the reality show I'm a Celebrity.Get Me Outta Here. and has appeared in the 2014 revival of Birds of a Feather, brief appearances on the British soap operas EastEnders and Casualty, Footloose, The Wicked, and Waitress, among other stage appearances.

Matt has also been outspoken about his addiction in the mid-2000s; in 2023, he wrote on Instagram about the BBC documentary “Matt Willis: The Project. I'm going to explore different kinds of addiction, chat with people who have been through it, and talk to experts about the best ways to recover.”

Emma Willis (née Griffiths), 48, was born in Birmingham, England, and began modeling at age 15. She is best known as a television and radio broadcaster and began her career as a presenter on MTV in 2002. Since then, This Morning, The Voice: UK, Big Brother, Celebrity Big Brother, and the BRIT Awards. She also hosted two seasons of “The Circle UK” and received her degree from Netflix a few years before “Love is Blind: UK.”

Emma and Matt met and began dating in 2004. In a recent interview with The Guardian, they recall that they met on MTV when Emma was working as a presenter and Emma pursued Matt to get his phone number; they became engaged three years later while on vacation in Venice, Italy, and in 2008 at Rushton Hall in Northamptonshire They married in 2008 at Rushton Hall in Northamptonshire (from The Sun). They have three children: Isabelle, born in 2009; Ace, born in 2011; and Trixie, born in 2016.

The couple often work together, sharing hosting duties on a variety of shows, including I'm a Celebrity.Get Me Outta Here. (two seasons after Matt won), the 2008 BRIT Awards, and appearances at the BAFTAs. Emma also appeared on Fighting Addiction, where she opened up about the impact of Matt's drug use and rehab history on their marriage.

Speaking to The Guardian, Emma said of their relationship: “Matt and I are always working towards marriage. The wedding is not the destination, it's the part that lasts. As we grew older, matured, and settled down, we realized that as long as we communicated, we could avoid creating an environment that could lead to resentment and divorce. I won't let that happen and neither will he.”
