How United Aviate Academy is training the next generation of aviators

United Airlines has earned its reputation as a premier airline through its commitment to safety, service, and choice. The Arizona-based United Aviate Academy offers these same commitments to aspiring United Airlines pilots.

As the airline industry grapples with an aging workforce facing a pilot shortage and retirement, it needs to invest in recruitment and training programs and address the financial challenges of becoming a pilot. To address this challenge, United Airlines plans to hire 10,000 new pilots and train approximately 5,000 students at its academies over the next decade.

To remove financial barriers to becoming an airline pilot, United and JP Morgan Chase have committed to provide approximately $5 million in scholarships.

For student pilots in the academy, the sky is literally the limit. Supported by United's inclusive corporate culture, students receive career guidance and mentoring from current United pilots, and training in the Cirrus SR20, recognized as one of the most technologically advanced training aircraft available.

After earning their private pilot certificate, students can participate in the more extensive Aviate Pilot Development Program and begin operating United Airlines in as little as five years. The academy will allow United to increase the supply of pilots and add diversity to its pilot training pipeline.

Aviate Academy students also have access to special travel benefits available to United Airlines employees. Once hired as a co-pilot, students will enjoy flying through the most comprehensive global network of airlines in North America.

United is the only major U.S. airline to own a flight school. For more information about the United Aviate Academy, visit UnitedAviate.com/academy.
