Prince Harry and Prince William criticize "offensive" and "potentially harmful" factual stories about their relationship.

As royals gather at Sandringham today to discuss the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to "step down" as senior royals, Prince Harry and Prince William (opens in new tab) issued a joint statement denying "falsehoods" about their relationship, calling them "offensive and potentially damaging," they called it "potentially harmful. As reported by The Guardian, the statement does not identify the article in question, but the brothers are believed to be referring to an article in The Times of London headlined "The Princes 'fell out because Prince William was not friendly to Princess Meghan.'"

The article claims that William's "bullying attitude" drove Meghan and Harry out of the royal family, adding that the Duke of Cambridge "was not welcoming enough towards Meghan when they first started dating." The princes' full statement (opens in new tab) reads, "Despite clear denials, a false article speculating about the relationship between the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge was published in a British newspaper today. For brothers who care deeply about issues surrounding mental health, the use of such inflammatory language is offensive and potentially harmful."

According to the Guardian (opens in new tab), today's royal crisis meeting will be hosted by the Queen and attended by Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who recently returned to Canada, will also be dialed into the meeting.

Last Wednesday, Meghan and Harry announced in an official statement (open in new tab) that they plan to "step down as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and strive for financial independence while continuing to fully support Her Majesty the Queen." The royal couple added, "We now plan to balance our time between the UK and North America while continuing to fulfill our obligations to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patrons."
