Who is Susan Brown, Michael Bloomberg's ex-wife?

As billionaire and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg continues his late campaign for president in 2020 (opens in new tab), he is campaigning with his current partner, Diana Taylor. She is not the mother of his two children: Bloomberg is married once to Susan Brown (opens in new tab); the two separated in 1993, but if reports are to be believed, the two are still more than intimately involved. In fact, the two are referred to as "best friends" by those closest to them. The following is about Brown's marriage to Bloomberg and their current situation.

According to the marriage announcement in the New York Times (open in new tab), Susan Brown (née Meyer) was previously married and divorced. She attended schools in York, England and Neuchatel, Switzerland; they have two children, Georgina and Emma. Apparently they often disagreed about the length of time he was away from his family.

"Their lives were incompatible, so it didn't work out," Emma explains. 'My mother doesn't want to be social all the time. She was happy to curl up with a book and not go out for a week." The two remained friends after their divorce, however, and Brown and her then-boyfriend campaigned for her ex, and as of 2001 they were still celebrating the holidays together.

Bloomberg also continued to support Brown after the divorce; in 2012, The New York Times (open in new tab) reported:

"In 2011, Mr. Bloomberg helped his ex-wife Susan in at least two financial deals: in 2011, Mr. Bloomberg assisted Susan in at least two financial transactions. He provided a bridge loan of more than $500,000 so that she could purchase a new apartment while she waited for the sale of her previous apartment to be completed, and he transferred more than $500,000 into a trust in her name.

According to Emma, "My parents are best friends ...... No one understands that until they actually see it." She was so positively affected by the situation that she mentioned it in a college essay, calling it "one of the best things that ever happened to me."

The couple, together for 20 years, met at a business lunch (open in new tab) and later he asked her out at a restaurant. She had worked on Wall Street since the 1980s, had been appointed New York State banking regulator in 2003, and even had fleeting political aspirations. 'Her famous boyfriend may be the least interesting thing about her,' says Anna Wintour (opens in new tab). 'She's intelligent, independent, and completely herself. Michael is lucky to have her."

"She's a very good person.

The two are not married and have no plans to be. According to Taylor, partner seems to be the closest word. She is to his children "nothing more than an in-law ... friend" and an ardent supporter of his political aspirations.
