I'm not drawn to anything fancy. Karaoke, rock concerts (remember those?). I'm in love with a spartan button-down shirt if the cut is just right, and plaid is a subtle, interesting color combination. Quite a few years after finding my beloved hoodie, I had another sacred moment at the thrift store. This time it was a Penguin short-sleeved button-down shirt. It was a fateful moment when I found this tiger among dozens of racks crammed with clothing from all eras. The shirt still had its original tag.

I continued to add patterns to my wardrobe, taking it a step further from my usual reliance on solids, stripes, and plaid. My leopard print long-sleeved shirt gets compliments every time I feel extroverted in it. I also began collecting 70s disco shirts with kaleidoscopic patterns. They are loud, but the oversized collars fit my proportions perfectly. I have come to appreciate how eye-catching prints can draw the eye. It allows me to express an attitude and energy that doesn't usually fit my mood. But be careful! All bets are off when I get the urge to layer a hoodie with a tiger motif and a matching shirt.
