Who is Naomi Biden, granddaughter of Joe Biden?
President Joe Biden has always made it clear that his top priority is his family. He has seven grandchildren (opens in new tab), some of whom are playing key roles in his 2020 campaign, but perhaps the one he is with most often is his beloved granddaughter, Naomi Biden. A Columbia University law student and daughter of Biden's son Hunter (opens in new tab), the 26-year-old is an important figure for the president-elect. She is named after President Biden's late daughter Naomi (opens in new tab), whom he lost in a tragic car accident in 1972, and is very close to her grandfather. So what do we know about her?
During President Biden's time as vice president, Naomi traveled with her grandparents on various international trips, visiting countries such as New Zealand, Turkey, and China.
She has taken to Twitter to show her support for her grandfather while at the same time confronting criticism of him head-on. In a Twitter thread last year, Naomi addressed claims that her grandfather was not progressive enough. If she decided not to vote against Donald Trump in the fall, she warned that he should "apologize to the children who were separated from their parents, put in cages, and deprived of a future" (open in new tab).
Since her grandfather took office, Naomi has remained active on Twitter (though she has indeed tweeted a bit less frequently, hence her bio says that her "tweets are permanently pending approval") and praised President Biden's joint address to Congress in April.
As we saw at the inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris in January, the Biden family grandchildren are very closely related. Naomi refers to Natalie Biden, daughter of the late Beau Biden, as her "mini-me" (opens in new tab) and emphasizes the bond between her grandchildren in this Instagram post (opens in new tab).
There is a cute video of the grandchildren together:
And another:
Naomi has been dating Peter Neal, a fellow law student, for several years; according to Guest of Guest (opens in new tab), he previously attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School He previously attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he interned for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and in the White House during Obama's presidency.
Both men are skilled at helping others and have created a website (opens in new tab) with a quiz to see if you qualify for assistance under the CARES Act (opens in new tab). Currently, more than 10,000 people are eligible to receive assistance from the $2.2 trillion stimulus package.
The couple told MTV News (opens in new tab) that it took them nearly 48 hours total to go through all 335 pages, create the quiz, and code the website. The only rest they got was three hours of sleep each night." It was either that or watch 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' three times in a row," Naomi told MTV News.
I know what you're thinking: is this an episode of Black Mirror?"
Tiffany Trump posted a photo on her Instagram Story taken with Naomi during a weekend trip in the Hamptons in 2018. The black-and-white photo was captioned "@naomibiden" and featured a pink and purple heart emoji.
Surprisingly, this was not just for show, but goes back to the two women. They both attended the University of Pennsylvania at the same time (opens in new tab), Tiffany with a degree in international relations and Naomi with a degree in sociology. (President Biden and former President Trump attended the 2016 graduation ceremony and watched their respective families receive their diplomas. Let's talk about foreshadowing.
