Who is Callum Carr?” Meet the actor who plays Mel's father Everett in ‘Virgin River’ Season 6.
The new season of “Virgin River” will not only feature the fan-anticipated wedding of Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson), but also two characters near and dear to the series: Mel's parents, Sarah and Everett. The elderly Everett (John Allen Nelson) showed up on Mel's doorstep during the holiday episode associated with season 5, and in a flashback to the 1970s in season 6 of the Netflix romance series, which began streaming on December 19, 2024 We learn more about this character.
Young Everett, played by Callum Carr, is a singer-songwriter who is swept up in a romance with Sarah (Jessica Rothe). Carr told TV Insider of his character, “He's full of excitement and surprises, he wants to travel and see things, he doesn't want to be tied down, he wants to be able to get up and go whenever he wants.”
So who exactly is Kerr, the newest player in the Virgin River universe? Read on to learn more about the model, actor, and musician who may appear in the Virgin River prequel.
Born near Edinburgh, the 30-year-old actor joined the Scottish National Youth Theatre as a young man. Around that time, he auditioned for the hit British teen drama “Skins,” but did not get the part. At first acting was a hobby, and Carr studied finance at school and then worked at a law firm. However, it wasn't long before he realized that acting was his dream, and he quit his job to pursue an artistic career in London.
After a series of modeling jobs, one of Carr's first roles was in the TV version of the classic romantic comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral, directed by Mindy Kaling. She also appeared in the British soap “Hollyoaks” and will appear in the new seasons of the Netflix animated series “One Piece” and the Prime Video fantasy series “Wheel of Time.”
She is also known for her recurring role in the musical drama Monarch, which was canceled after one season on FOX; in 2023, after six months on the Nashville country music scene, she released her first single, “Tequila Therapy” was released.
On his Instagram, Kerr described the song as “the breakup cure we've all been waiting for” and “the shot that heals all wounds.”
After the song dropped, he signed a record deal with OneRPM and Huffco in June 2024. However, Kerr does not intend to dedicate his acting career to guitar: he told Digital Spy, “I've been an actor for a long time. I've been doing music all my life, so I'm going to keep acting, keep doing music, and keep being creative,” he told Digital Spy.
Carr's musical leanings will help him in his role in Virgin River, as Everett is described as a “singer-songwriter with the soul of a poet,” and his official role description, as reported by Deadline, states, “One day he will pursue his stage dreams, but for now he's a VW van and wanders through life.” A chance encounter with a beautiful hitchhiker, Sarah, may show him that there is more to life than he ever imagined.
He was cast as a recurring character in a flashback to season 6 of Virgin River, but Deadline reported in February 2024 that Netflix is also developing a prequel about Mel's parents. The current version of Everett originally appeared in the 2023 Christmas special, and a possible prequel would focus on the love story between Everett and Mel's mother Sarah.
Patrick Sean Smith, showrunner of Virgin River, is developing a prequel series, but it has not yet been formalized, nor has it been determined if Carr will reprise his role. Carr announced the casting on Instagram in September 2024, saying he was “overjoyed” to be joining the Virgin River universe.
