Shakira Says Chris Martin Supported Her Breakup with Gerard Pique: “He Checked In Every Day”

In her dramatic separation from Gerard Piquet, Shakira suffered the world over, but at least she had faithful friends she could count on.

One of those friends, Chris Martin, revealed that Shakira contacted her daily to make sure she was holding up okay.

“When I was separated and heartbroken, he was there for me,” the “Hips Don't Lie” singer told Rolling Stone in a new profile about the Coldplay frontman.

“He checked in every day to see how I was doing and sent me words of support, strength, and wisdom.”

Shakira elaborated on why Martin was especially suited to help her through her difficult time, saying, “I see him as someone who sees life through a different lens, someone who is sensitive to the needs of others, someone who is very empathetic, very empathic.”

How lovely.

Shakira and her ex, a former Spanish soccer player, have been together for 11 years and have two children, sons Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9.

They announced their breakup in June 2022 amid allegations of cheating on Piqué's part.

Shakira was very transparent about how difficult the post-breakup period was for her, while Pique did not make any new friends when he spoke about it in the Spanish newspaper El País around March 2023.

“I keep doing what I want to do,” he said in a roundabout way about the alleged affair. 'I look back in death and think I've always done what I wanted to do. I want to be true to myself. I'm not going to spend money to clean up my image."

He added, ”I'm not going to spend money to clean up my image.

Meanwhile, Shakira told The Times in March 2024 that she sacrificed a lot for her relationship with Pique. She explained, “For a long time I put my career on hold to be next to Gerard so he could play soccer.” 'I sacrificed a lot for love.'
