Mrs. Camilla's Christmas gift purchased at a department store in London is the talk of the town.
The whole world is the Royal Family's oyster when it comes to Christmas gifts, but Queen Camilla was spotted out and about on December 17, joining the busy holiday shoppers in London as she picked out a very practical gift.
While the Queen can buy almost anything she wants, Camilla was spotted at Fortnum & Mason, the late Queen Elizabeth's favorite department store, looking at a display of £13.95 (roughly $17) tea tins. According to an eyewitness (via the Daily Mail), Camilla shopped in front of the festive display “for a while” and then chose a “cinnamon and orange tea.”
Shockingly, the queen “went almost unnoticed” in the crowded store. Anyone who has been to Fortnum during the nightmarishly crowded holiday season will understand why this scenario is so ridiculous.
One shopper, however, spotted Queen Camilla stopping by the store before heading to Sandringham for the vacations. This woman from Essex told the Daily Mail, “I was delighted to be so close to the Queen and never imagined I would order the same tea as her.”
“I was about to ask the attendant the price of a tin of tea when I noticed the Queen standing directly across from me.
The man, Camilla said, “had about four security guards with him, but they didn't warn me when I approached the table.
Queen Camilla's shopping trip was hardly a royal first; her late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth, also did her annual Christmas shopping at a historic London department store. According to the Fortnum & Mason website, the items listed for the Queen and Dowager Queen “were particularly popular, with breakfast trays, breakfast sets, garden furniture, and hostess trolleys showing that they share a practical mindset.”
Fortnum & Mason teas are also a favorite of Marie Claire's editors. Art director Monte Tanus recommends the brand's variety box of fruity teas, but my personal favorite is the strawberry, elderflower, and rose flavors in the Fortnum & Mason infusion trio. Jenny Hollander, digital director, prefers the traditional Earl Grey.
The exact tea that Queen Camilla purchased does not appear to be available online, but some of our favorites are listed below.
