Virgin River” Season 7: Everything We Know
If you've already finished watching “Virgin River” Season 6, good news: Netflix has decided to air a seventh installment. The show, based on Robin Carr's romance novel series, follows midwife Melinda “Mel” Monroe (played on the show by Alexandra Breckenridge), who moves to a remote town in search of a fresh start. There she meets and falls in love with Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), a veteran and owner of a local bar. Season 6 focuses on their long-awaited wedding, which they finally marry in the finale.
After the update, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Netflix's Tudum that “there's more to come for these characters. ”According to Deadline, the feel-good drama about a small California town and its residents also became Netflix's “longest-running English-language drama series” with the order for Season 7.
Below is everything we know so far about Virgin River Season 7.
Before Jack and Mel say “I do” in Season 6, Netflix has already renewed the romance drama for another season. The cast released a mash-up video on Instagram on October 23 in advance of the December 19 release of Season 6, teasing more secrets about Netflix's longest-running original scripted series to date.
The cast and crew of Virgin River are quite efficient, with new episodes being released every year since the first season debuted in December 2019. Most seasons come out in about a year, except for the break between season 2 and season 3, which was about 8 months, so we can expect the confirmed 10-episode season to drop sometime in 2025.
Spoilers for the sixth season of “Virgin River” ahead. Even after Mel and Jack's temporary escape from their own wedding, all is well with the rest of their wedding in the season 6 finale. When Mel's biological father Everett (John Allen Nelson) appeared before her in the holiday episode “Father Christmas,” her father-in-law, Doc (Tim Matheson), had serious concerns about his intentions based on events between the two a few years earlier. Since then, the adults have put that behind them. Doc walks Mel down the aisle and Everett performs a song he wrote about Mel's late mother, Sarah, as their first dance.
But what happens to the other characters may upset fans. Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) and Lark (Elise Gatien) solidify their relationship just before Lark skips town and empties his bank account in the process. As he tries to move on, he and Bree (Zibby Allen) revert to old patterns and sleep together. Bree is conflicted because she is in a committed relationship with Mike (Marco Grazzini). She is ready to leave both men when Mike gets down on one knee and admits that he wants to marry her, despite knowing about her infidelity.
Actress Zibby Allen, who plays Bree, teased, “I can't believe the finale,” before revealing that they filmed two endings for Bree's cliffhanger. “The one they chose, I'm so happy, but it blew me away,” she told TV Insider. 'How do we move forward?' I feel like.”
The finale left several other loose threads: Doc's medical license has been suspended, Hope (Annette O'Toole) thinks someone is targeting his clinic, and Marley (Rachel Dorrance) shows up the morning after the wedding and asks Mel to adopt her baby and She asks him to do it. Perhaps most shockingly, when Jack visits Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), he finds her front door open and her living room ransacked. The final shot of the season shows Jack opening the twins' bedroom door and being frightened by what he sees behind it.
The new season will see the return of key cast members including Alexandra Breckenridge (Mel), Martin Henderson (Jack), Tim Matheson (Doc), John Allen Nelson (Everett), Annette O'Toole (Hope), Ben Hollingsworth ( Brady), Colin Lawrence (Preacher), Candace McClure (Kaia), Sarah Dugdale (Lizzie), Kai Bradbury (Denny), Zibby Allen (Bree), Margo Grazzini (Mike), and others.
We may also see more of the new season 6 cast, Callum Carr and Jessica Rothe, who play younger versions of Mel's parents Everett and Sarah. They appeared in season 6 as flashbacks, and Netflix is currently developing another prequel series featuring them. However, if they decide not to move forward, these characters could be woven into future seasons of Virgin River.
Since Lark skipped town in the Season 6 finale, she and her daughter Hazel (Eva Anton) may not appear again. Also, if Mel and Jack decide to adopt Marley's baby, the birth mother (Rachel Dorrance) could make an occasional appearance.
Smith informed Tudum that Season 7 of the romance series “will be about the honeymoon phase [for Mel and Jack] of building a life on the farm, which can be fraught with obstacles.” Despite this, he assured fans that the central couple will not be breaking up. I can't imagine creating a scenario where I think Mel and Jack would break up,” Smith continued. 'We need to dig a little deeper to see what other issues there are in their relationship.'
But given how things ended in season 6, we can also expect more of the messy love triangle between Bree, Mike, and Brady, and the possibility of a new baby in the mix should Mel and Jack go through with the adoption. There is also a mystery surrounding Charmaine's entanglement with Calvin (David Cubitt) that may turn out to be the worst thing that could happen.
