Territory” Season 2: Everything We Know
Netflix's Australian western drama “Territory” depicts a fierce struggle for succession in the world of cattle ranching. (At the beginning of this six-episode series, Daniel Lawson, heir to the billion-dollar Mariana Ranch, is attacked by a wild dingo and mysteriously dies. His father, Colin Lawson (Robert Taylor), must choose a new successor to take over the family business. As rival cattle barons, billionaire miners, and indigenous elders move in to stake their claims. ......
The six-episode must-see TV series landed on Netflix on October 24 and quickly climbed into the streaming giant's top 10. Here is what we know so far about a possible “Territory” Season 2.
Netflix has not confirmed whether “Territory” will return for a second season. Netflix is waiting to see viewership numbers for a few weeks before deciding whether to invest in another production.
After the series gets the go-ahead, “Territory” could be revived relatively quickly; according to Deadline, “Territory” (working title at the time was “Desert King”) was first announced in August 2023, began shooting in September of that year, and eventually came to Netflix in October 2024 It appeared on Netflix in September. Depending on whether the creative team already has ideas for future plots, Season 2 could premiere in early 2026.
“Territory” Season 2 finale spoilers ahead. Most of the series' ensemble cast will likely return for Season 2, including Anna Tove (Emily Lawson), Michael Dorman (Graham Lawson), Robert Taylor (Colin Lawson), and Sam Corlett (Marshall Lawson), Clarence Ryan (Nolan Brannock), Dan Willey (Hank Hodge), Sarah Wiseman (Sandra Kirby), Joe Krawcheck (Lacey Kirby), Kayla Day (Charney), Turi Nerkle (Keely Redford), Hamilton Morris ( Uncle Bryce).
Unfortunately, not all of the Territory crew made it out of season one alive. Emily and Graham's teenage daughter Susie was attacked and killed by a cow in episode 5, and actress Philippa Northeast will not return unless the series decides to feature her in a flashback. Meanwhile, Marshall's nemesis Rich and rival cattleman Campbell Miller died in the Season 1 finale, so Sam Delich and Jay Ryan will not return for the next episode either.
After six episodes in which Emily Lawson does her best to win control of Marianne Station for her family, “Territory” Season 1 ends with patriarch Colin ceding control to Emily and her husband Graham, who are still reeling from the death of their daughter Susie. Emily and Graham are the last heirs, as Colin's desired heir, Marshall, left the station because he didn't want to be a grandfather someday. Threats still lurk, such as Sandra's vow to return and resume her plans, but otherwise it looks as if Emily has finally won. Until Daniel's death strikes her.
It turns out that Daniel and Emily had signed a contract to sell Marianne Station to Sandra before her death. However, after a fight, Daniel turns on Emily and threatens to remove her and Graham from the station. Emily fired at Daniel as he rode away and shot his horse. She left Daniel in the outback, which led to a wild dingo finding and killing him. Daniel's horse was left to wander the wilderness until it was found by a mysterious stranger, Elton.
Meanwhile, Elton and Emily struck their own deal. In episode 4, the two agreed that Elton would keep the truth of Daniel's death a secret if Emily would protect Gomen Place, a sacred Native American place. However, Sandra blows up the land in the season finale. Season 1 of “Territory” ends when Elton approaches the Lawsons with Daniel's horse and drops two shell casings in Colin's hands.
As suggested by the last shot of Emily's face, “Territory” Season 2 is likely to focus on an all-out war between Emily and Colin. Emily has been an anti-hero throughout the series, and season 2 may see her at odds with the Lawson family as she tries to go after Marianne Station without any noble ambition now that Susie is gone. Another major lingering question is what Marshall saw in Colin's second safe, whether he was willing to die for it, and whether it will be the chess piece to beat Colin outright or potentially bring Marshall back into the game as his successor.
