Dua Lipa literally “goes back to his roots” with black hair
When Dua Lipa is not touring, he is jet-setting. And when he's not jet-setting, he's at the salon experimenting with different hair colors. He has tried every hair color from cherry cola red to bright beach blonde and now night sky black.
On October 17, Dua Lipa took the stage for a special concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, wearing a vintage corset gown and Old Hollywood waves dyed jet black. Lest anyone think she was wearing a hairpiece like Sabrina Carpenter's rumored wig, she quickly released a photo of her second performance outfit (a matching black set with a chain draped in pearls) and a close-up of the new color. She captioned the image, “Back to my roots.”
Dua Lipa's fresh shades were courtesy of celebrity hair colorist Matt Rez. Working with stylist Peter Lux, the duo dyed their hair spacey dark and curled it into loose waves with a deep side part.
The singer's Radical Optimism Beauty era was previously defined by Cherry Cola Red. That color was the work of hairstylist Ben Gregory, who told Marie Claire earlier this year that Dua Lipa wanted a hair change for her “next chapter.” Gregory said, “We had the idea of using red, really pigmented red, so that it would be really bright red for daytime photo shoots, but more of a blood red indoors and on the red carpet.”
Dua Lipa kept her vampy red hair throughout the entire 2024 awards season circuit and international tour. Now that she has returned to her dark hair, fans can't help but wonder.
Her post does not provide any extra information about her motivation for changing her hairstyle. She credited her stylist, Jahleel Weaver, who dreamed up a dramatic corset gown and matching set to accentuate the new color.
Even if Dua Lipa has not “confessed” to her impending musical turnaround, she has at least admitted to checking out the fall hair color trend. Around the same time she did, Kylie Jenner showed off her gothic black dye job on Instagram. Rich girl blonde may not be the color of the season after all.
