Sarah Jessica Parker wears Y2K eyeshadow on her eyelids at the New York City Ballet Gala.

Sarah Jessica Parker looked like a fairy out of “The Nutcracker” at the New York City Ballet's Fall Fashion Gala on Wednesday, October 9. Parker, an ardent supporter of the ballet company, has been the red carpet star of this annual event for the past 20 years. She usually wears elaborate, theatrical outfits, but this year the “Sex and the City” star somehow managed to outdo herself with a look reminiscent of a winter snow princess.

I was particularly taken by her glamorous style, which breathed new life into the frosty eyeshadow trend of the 90s and early 80s. The secret seems to lie in makeup artist Marielle Barrera's application of matte brown eyeshadow on the crease, gunmetal shadow on the lash line, and silver glitter strategically placed on the inner corner of the eye and the crease of the eyelid. Dressed with rosy blush and a pinky-nude lip, the look is three-dimensional yet grounded, a truly modern take on the Y2K beauty trend loved by Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. To keep the focus on Parker's face, hairstylist Serge Normand pulled her long blonde hair into a sleek side ponytail.

Parker added drama in an off-the-shoulder tea-length dress by Oscar de la Renta. She accessorized her bouncy frock with silver ankle-strap sandals, a coordinating chrome chain purse, diamond necklace, and diamond stud earrings.

It is only fitting that the And Just Like That actor, who personally influenced many of the trends that defined the 2000s, bravely resurrected frosty eye shadow on the red carpet 20 years later. Thankfully, the formula has improved greatly since then, so we can jump into the trend without falling off this time around.
