Katie Holmes Wears Wet Look at “Our Town” Premiere
Katie Holmes, as anyone familiar with her early career knows, is a theater kid at heart. In fact, she nearly missed her chance to audition for “Dawson's Creek” because of school plays. Now she makes her long-awaited return to the stage in the Broadway revival of Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Our Town” at the Barrymore Theatre. This is a bit of a big deal, as this is the first time the play has been staged on Broadway in 20 years.
On that memorable opening night, Holmes appeared in a Bree Welch-esque ensemble. A black silk turtleneck blouse with long flared sleeves and a belted black maxi skirt with a bold thigh-high slit. (Both were from the high-end ready-to-wear brand Heirloom (a 180 style change from the quilted jacket and mary jane shoes I had worn the previous morning). But what I find particularly intriguing is the wet-look hairstyle, borrowed straight from Kim Kardashian's style book. Kylie Jenner and Zendaya also have arrangements of this trend this year.
Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton didn't do this style on Holmes, but he has done it on most everyone, including Kardashian and, more recently, Katy Perry. Luckily, he has already published a tutorial on TikTok on the no-fail technique, which is surprisingly easy to replicate. All you need is one product: the Color Wow Pop & Rock Glossing Serum. Appleton prefers this hybrid oil over mousse, gel, or oil alone, because mousse, gel, or oil alone can make hair too stiff, stiff, or greasy. Next, using a wide-toothed comb, tuck hair to one side and tuck the other side behind the ear. According to Appleton, this entire process takes less than five minutes.
Here, Holmes decided to accent her damp, free-flowing hairstyle with a pair of statement drop earrings by Reza, which encase pink, green, and deep blue stones in diamond-studded swirls. While not exact, the pair (which retails for a whopping $245,000 at Reza) are very similar in design.
Holmes finished off this elegant outfit with steel-toe slingback heels, a black clutch bag with a CH Carolina Herrera malachite clasp, and a pink ring. I can't confirm the exact pair of her shoes, but you can find similar options at ASOS, Maria Luca, and Saint Laurent.
I'd end by telling Holmes to break a leg, but I fear that with heels like these, she actually could. In any case, from the critique, she seems to play Mrs. Webb perfectly. Wouldn't you love to see her winning from head to toe?
