Why Kaia Gerber's Nail Clip Easy Updo Looks Rich
Today, October 3, is the day I learned that Kaia Gerber might really be like me. As she runs her mid-week errands and catches up on the phone, her shower-wet hair is easily styled into an updo with a nail clip.
Gerber shot a toned-down errand outfit on October 2, moving away from her recent leather-on-leather combinations and J. Crew cashmere sweaters. Some millennials may have cheered for corded headphones - either they're back or they never left.
The model chose an espresso brown clip that blended in with her long black hair. She wrapped her ponytail around it and secured it at the back of her head to create an assisted chignon. Many people, from editors to hairstylists to TikTok internet users, love it as a quick and easy hairstyle. It's now endorsed by top models.
Of course, this model can make any average hairstyle look good. On the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival, she paired a Herve Leger dress with a voluminous 90s-style hairstyle. A few months earlier, Kaia Gerber showed off her curtain bangs in the theater.
But Kaia Gerber's nail clip updo is special to me. Styled with a gray sweatshirt draped over her shoulders, a long trench coat, and oversized sunglasses, she makes me feel like I'm watching my reflection at a bodega or on my way to work later in the week. She was dressed in a comfortable silhouette, but still somewhat skeletal. A few hairs poked out of her clip, but they added to her overall charm. The mood was reminiscent of Miu Miu's Fall 2024 runway. Models wore precisely layered, deliberately wrinkled shirts and carried deliberately stuffed bags. Definitely chic, but not unaffordable.
When Copenhagen Fashion Week returns in January, I hope to run into Kaia Gerber looking for nail clips and scrunchies at Pico. Clearly, she's an ideal customer for this boutique: a cool girl who loves nail clips. She doesn't need to travel abroad to try out her easy twist-up style.
