Milan's Best Beauty Moments are Delicious Italian

If you crave capital “G” glamour on the Fashion Week runways, there is no better place than Milan. And fortunately, the Spring/Summer '25 Milan Fashion Week did not disappoint. This season was not a “beauty famine. Fine maximalism and highly luminous dewy skin will likely be this season's (and inevitably TikTok's) biggest makeup trend.

Designers like Gucci's Sabato De Sarno, Etro's Marco De Vincenzo, and Mrs. Prada all hit the catwalk with buzz-worthy collections that generated plenty of media coverage. As individualism is increasingly celebrated in a unique and elegant way (in other words, you can say goodbye to half-baked fashion budgets), it makes sense that the behind-the-scenes makeup artists have infused this season's looks with an abundance of modern Italian elegance. It makes sense.

Color-conscious beauty fans rejoice. Whether it's GCDS's neon green liner or Marco Rambaldi's chewy fuchsia lips, Milan's color-conscious beauty fans rejoice. Whether it was the neon green liner of GCDS or the chewy fuchsia lip of Marco Rambaldi, Milan's makeup looks proved the indelible power of “less is more.

Classic smoky eyes and understated winged looks are ideal for a night out with your girlfriends, but the Milan runway wisely decided to take it up a notch for the Spring 2025 collection. At Gucci, the 60s cat eye was given a contemporary twist, with plenty of black liner on the outer eyelid and a thick coat of black mascara. Meanwhile, at Marni, the eyebrows took center stage with a revival of the Clara Bow-inspired thin brow. Paired with pale plum cheeks and a wine-tinted pout, the dramatic look proved that you don't have to be too tweezed and overjoyed to try the skinny brow trend.

Despite rumors that matte skin is making a comeback, this season's Milan runways were all about embracing impossibly glossy skin tones. At Boss, models walked the catwalk with glossy eyelids. Bottega's lineup was demi-matte and radiant, the perfect accent to the structured, color-blocked suits in Mathieu Blasie's collection. Also, Moschino's perfectly dusky skin allowed the quirky accessories (including a seashell-embellished swim cap) to show their true value.

It wouldn't be Milan Fashion Week without unexpected splashes of color. In true Italian fashion, Jil Sander's models arrived with mind-blowing crimson lips that made makeup unnecessary. Models were decked out in green, pink, purple, yellow, and orange neon liners. Marco Rambaldi's team also took a similar approach, smearing lavender shadow around their eyes to create a beautifully hazy effect. A perfectly imperfect deep rose stain was applied to the center of the lips of the models who did not wear an eye look, and combined with their bare faces, created a blissful mid-morning make-out look. What could be more Italian than that?

If proof was needed that the nude lip is a timeless staple, the Milan runways more than proved it. At Max Mara, glossy nude lips coupled with enviably flawless skin complemented each model's natural lip color, and combined with low chignons, completed the delicious old-money effect. Prada similarly used only a transparent balm on each model for Spring 2025 to bring out their bare skin and keep their lips hydrated and supple. And at Fendi, the glossy, color-corrected faces showed a calmness befitting the end of Fashion Month.
