Over the weekend, her comments in an interview with The Guardian were discussed and some questioned whether she would vote for Donald Trump despite her professed liberal views.
“I have encouraged people to use their critical thinking skills, to know what they are voting for, to know who they are voting for, and to ask questions. And as usual, it's taken completely out of context,” the ‘Hot to Go’ singer said after fans took her to task for not endorsing a presidential candidate.
“There are nuances to what I say in interviews, and I think it's important for people to engage in critical thinking.” [If you come to my show, if you read all my interviews, if you know literally anything about me and what I stand for, you know that this is not lip service, this is not virtue signaling, and my actions have always paved the way for my project and for people who really know me I know that I have been doing it,” the musician continued.
“Actions are more eloquent than words, and actions are more eloquent than support.”
Roan went on to read back a quote from The Guardian: “I have a lot of problems with government on all sides. There are many things I would like to change. So I don't feel pressure to support anyone. There are problems on both sides. I encourage people to use their critical thinking skills, cast a small vote, and vote for what is happening in their city”
.
And she emphasized how important trans rights are in the upcoming elections and beyond.
“If you still have doubts, hear it from me,” Roan added on TikTok. 'No, I will not vote for Trump and yes, I will always question those in power and those who make decisions against others. And I will stand up for what is right and what I believe in.”
She concluded, “I'm sorry I fell for the clickbait.”
The performer had disabled comments on her video, but after Pop Crave shared the clip on X, people weighed in.
“Chapel Lawn is the type of celebrity you guys don't like. [And is she right? Why are you all mad at her?
Although Roane is a queer artist and is known for regularly standing up for causes she believes in, some social media users believe she should have voiced support like à la Taylor Swift.
“Sorry, but whatever this vague statement is, this razor-thin endorsement for the election would be more helpful,” another added.
