On September 6, 2024, Hulu premiered “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives”. The show is a new reality show about eight Mormon moms and TikTok stars living their lives despite the social constraints of the LDS Church. The cast boasts hundreds of thousands of TikTok followers, but Taylor Frankie Paul was the best known before and after the series began.

Taylor went from online to mainstream notoriety in 2022 when she revealed that she was part of a Mormon soft swing circle that led to her divorce from her first husband. While the swinging scandal did not play as big a role in “Mormon Wives” as internet users expected, millions of viewers were fascinated by Taylor's life. Taylor Frankie Paul, 30, is a full-time content creator based in Utah, best known for her 4.6 million followers on TikTok. She posts content that mixes lifestyle and parenting, and her children and boyfriend often appear in her videos. Before Soft Swing Scandal and The Mormon Wives, she was best known as the originator of #MomTok content.

According to Parade, Paul was previously married to ex-husband Tate Paul from 2016 to 2022, with whom she has two children, Indy (born 2017) and Ocean (born 2020). After their separation, Taylor met Dakota Mortensen, a real estate agent and recovering addict, on Instagram. The Mormon Wives largely depicted their rocky relationship, in which they fought a lot and had trust issues. Taylor also revealed on the show that she was arrested in February 2023 for arguing with Dakota and that she stopped drinking afterwards.

Taylor and Dakota continued to date after having their first child, a boy named Ever, in March 2024. Taylor is co-parenting two children with Tate. [Taylor told Parade magazine about her relationship with Dakota. “We came into this relationship with a lot of baggage and it was really hard to work through... It was rocky, but I'll always choose him.”

In 2022, the self-proclaimed founder of #MomTok became nationally infamous when she revealed on TikTok Live that she was divorcing husband Tate Paul. In the video, Taylor explained that she, Tate, and other Mormon couples have practiced non-monogamous soft swinging, or swapping partners on the condition that they “don't fuck” unless their spouse is in the room. According to The Cut, Taylor had an emotional affair with one of the group's husbands, adding that he eventually “stepped out” of the group's agreement to “not go all the way” and Tate and Taylor ended up divorcing.

The scandal was covered in “Mormon Wives,” but the performers (other than Taylor) denied that they were monogamous. However, “Salon” reports that fellow Mormon TikTok moms Camille Monday and Miranda McQuater, who made videos with Taylor before the scandal, have been accused of possibly being involved. Since “Mormon Wives” aired, Taylor has also revealed that all of the couples involved have since divorced.

During an appearance on the podcast The Viall Files, Taylor explained that she revealed the swinging secret to set the record straight after rumors began circulating online that her then-husband Tate had cheated on her with her best friend's husband.

“I don't know who did it, but it ended up all over the internet. All my TikToks were like, 'Cheater, husband thief. And the girls loved it and confirmed it with my friends. So I am going to go tell my story, if you are going to do that. [But] we were all dating just the other night. I just didn't feel it was fair,” she added. 'There was a lot more to this story than me being a home wrecker.

Taylor may have been destined to be a reality TV star; according to Us Weekly, during an appearance on the podcast “Scheananigans,” Taylor told host Scheana Shay that the TikTok star appeared on “Mormon Wives Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” before he was approached to appear in ”Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.

“I was actually interviewed for The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. I was interviewed a few months before or a little bit before 'The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. And basically ...... little bird told me, “You haven't had enough drama in your life.”

Taylor then admitted that she had not divulged intimate details of her life, such as the tea that would eventually become a swinging scandal. She added, “I obviously didn't admit to what we were doing.”

In the weeks since “Mormon Wives” first aired, Taylor has mostly limited her feed to promos for the reality series and family content with her children and Dakota. She and other performers have been tight-lipped about how the show has affected their friendships and #MomTok.

Taylor has made it clear that she still believes in Mormonism and attends church, despite backlash from some church members about the show; speaking to TheWrap on September 6, the influencer said, “There is more than one way to be a Mormon. I still attended church, and even more so now with all the press about our program and the criticism of other members. But I will still go to church with a smile on my face.” When asked about the impact of [Mormon Wives], she added, “I'm not a by-the-book person. I don't want girls who have made mistakes or done bad things to think that they can't be LDS or that they can't go to church because they feel guilty about what they've done.” I want them to know that they can make mistakes and still go to church and be a part of it. I don't go for the people, I go for God and Jesus.
