Mohamed Al-Fayed was known for his association with Princess Diana, whose son, Emad El-Din “Dodi” Mohamed Fayed, was dating Princess Diana at the time of her death in a 1997 car crash. However, the late Harrods owner, who died in 2023 at the age of 94, is now accused of sexually assaulting several women.

A new BBC documentary, Al-Fayed: Predator at Harrods, reveals that five former employees of the luxury department store were raped by Al-Fayed, and more women came forward after the press story was published.

The BBC went on to say that it had “heard testimonies from more than 20 former female employees” who claimed that Al-Fayed had “sexually assaulted or raped them.”

“Mohammed al-Fayed was a monster, a sexual predator without a shred of morals,” one former employee who said she was raped by the Harrods boss as a teenager told the BBC.

The victim called the store's employees Al Fayed's “toys,” adding that He was actively fear-mongering. When he told them to 'jump,' they would ask 'how high?'”

According to the women's testimony, the man would “regularly visit the department store's vast sales floor, identify young female assistants he found attractive,” and encourage them to work in his office.

According to the BBC, the reported assaults took place not only in London, but also in Paris, St. Tropez, and Abu Dhabi.

One woman was raped at Villa Windsor in Paris, the former residence of Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII, purchased by Al-Fayed.

The victim, named Gemma, told the BBC that Al-Fayed woke her up “in a single silk robe.”

“I told him, ‘No, I don't want you to.’ And he kept trying to get into bed, and at that point he got on top of me, and [I] couldn't really move anywhere,” Gemma said, revealing that he had gone on to rape her.

And while this is not the first time al-Fayed has been accused of sexual assault, with women making allegations in 1997, 2008, and 2017, the media called the new claims “unprecedented in scale and severity.”

The Egyptian-born billionaire was portrayed more positively in the final two series of Netflix's The Crown, in which Princess Diana navigates her new relationship with his son, Dodi.

“It's infuriating. A former Harrods employee who worked as Al Fayed's personal assistant told the BBC.

“He was vile,” she added, and al-Fayed “tried to rape her more than once,” the news media said.
