Since then, the couple has built a life together, having three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. And according to one royal expert, Prince William was very serious about making sure their marriage would stand the test of time.
Arthur Edwards, a photographer with a long association with the British royal family, once spoke about Prince William's marriage to Kate Middleton. Writing for The Sun, Edwards explained that “William once said that the reason it took so long for him and Kate to get engaged was because he wanted their marriage to last forever.”
Edwards referred to a recent Instagram video of the couple showing the Crown Prince and Princess enjoying the outdoors with their children. In the caption of the Instagram video, Princess Kate revealed that she had completed chemotherapy following her cancer diagnosis. She also reflected on her life with William and their children. Edwards wrote: “Watching Kate snuggle on her husband's shoulder while sitting on a pile of logs in the pine forest at Holkham Beach in Norfolk, it is clear that they are still very much in love.”
After announcing her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, Princess Kate retired from the public eye to undergo treatment. Since then, Prince William has continued to support his wife. The couple's touching Instagram updates suggest that they are a strong family that has come through difficult times together.
“And after the toughest months of our 13-year marriage, I am confident it will last forever,” Edwards declared in The Sun.
“We've got to get through these dark days, because we have a bright future ahead of us.”
Kate and William reportedly began dating in 2003 after first meeting in 2001 while attending St. Andrew's University; their brief split in 2007 seems to have cemented their relationship; in November 2010, the Prince and Princess of Wales announced their engagement, and the following year they tied the knot. After knowing each other for a decade, Prince William seemed to have a greater purpose in finally marrying Princess Kate.
