Who is Eugenio Franceschini?” All about the actor who plays Marcello in ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 4

There are mild spoilers for “Emily in Paris” Season 4, Part 2. For its first three seasons, “Emilie in Paris” was composed of three elements: the fish-out-of-water antics, the exquisite French fashion, and the love triangle that unfolded as Emilie, an American advertising executive, adjusted to the “City of Ritz.” Whether it's Emilie-Gabrielle-Camille or Gabrielle-Emilie-Alfie, Emily's love life has never gone smoothly. But by the end of the first five episodes of season four, it seemed as if the protagonist, played by Lily Collins, had finally found her happily ever after with her handsome neighbor Chef.

Marcello Muratori, played by Italian actor Eugenio Franceschini, makes his appearance in “Emily in Paris” Season 4 Episode 2, where Emily meets the mysterious handsome man at the top of a snowy mountain, after Gabrielle follows the pregnant Camille down a ski slope He rescues Emily from a near-death situation. Two episodes later, newly single, Emily reunites with Marcello at a polo match and accepts his invitation to visit Rome. When she arrives in Italy, Marcello turns out to be more than the “goat-herder” he introduces himself as.

At the end of Season 4, the new character Marcello seems to be following Emily around in Paris in Season 5. Like Emily's other love interests, the actor who plays Marcello is about to take on a new role as one of Netflix's new hotties. Below is everything you need to know about Eugenio Franceschini.

Eugenio Franceschini, 32, was born in Verona, Italy, in September 1991 to actor parents; in a 2012 interview with Vanity Fair Italia magazine, he credits his parents with nurturing his passion for acting.

“I found my passion for acting thanks to my father, the son of a Veronese farmer. After finishing medical school, my father gave up everything to become a street actor. My father never allowed that to happen.” In Bologna he met my mother, an actress who excelled at puppetry and children's theater. Together we traveled all over the world.

According to Franceschini, there was a rebellious period in his teenage years when he stayed behind in Verona to go to high school and “did everything he had never done before.” Eventually, he began traveling again with his father, who encouraged him to pursue a career as a film actor.

“For two years I did shows alone with my father. It was my father who told me I couldn't do street theater anymore, so I decided to try film, not expecting to get an audition at a school where only 18 out of 800 students were accepted.” When the results came in, I was with my father at a bed and breakfast in Bilbao.

In his late teens, Franceschini moved to Rome to attend the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, a prestigious national film school in Italy that admitted only a handful of applicants a year. According to Vanity Fair Italia, in his second year at the school, he auditioned for three roles and won each of them.

Throughout his career, the Italian actor has appeared in television, film, and stage productions such as Grand Hotel, Medici, Back Home, Non mi lasciare, Black Out - Vite Sospese, and Màkari. 2014 she received the Guglielmo Biraghi Award from the Italian Federation of Film Journalists for her work in the romantic comedy films “Sapore di te” and “Maldamore”.

The star of “Emily in Paris” seems to be a bit of an old soul. In several interviews, he has said he is a fan of legendary singer-songwriters like Francesco Guccini and Fabrizio De Andre. He also told Rolling Stone Italia magazine in 2018, “I am not a very open person, but I think this is the cultural heritage of my country. In everyday life I am very calm and I am not the kind of person who gets easily agitated. Big problems make me angry, but not bullshit.

In addition to being born in the fair city of Verona, Franceschini is also a Shakespeare fan. According to Rolling Stone Italia, he got a tattoo dedicated to the bard when he was 17: “We are what dreams are made of.”

“I got that tattoo after one special night in Sziget. After the Metallica concert, it started pouring down rain, the Danube flooded, flooding half of the island of Obuda, shutting down the generators. They started beating the drums and we danced in the rain. The next morning, I went back to my tent and got a tattoo: but it's ok. The story behind this tattoo is beautiful.

New fans can keep up with Franceschini on Instagram @franceschinieugenio, but fair warning, the actor is not that active online: in 2018, Rolling Stone Italia interview, he revealed that he does not have a smartphone and often waits at home at night to access the Internet. He said, “I have nothing against people who think differently. I get annoyed with people who use their cell phones in public: in a crowd, it's important to focus on the person in front of you.”

At the time of our interview, he had just launched his Instagram. He said, “Little by little now, my agent and my girlfriend have set up an Instagram profile for me. They're trying to bring me closer to the world, but the pictures I post are always taken by someone else.”

Today, the actor keeps most of his personal life private, as seen in his relatively sparse Instagram feed.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Franceschini recalled that he landed the role in “Emily in Paris” while filming another project. He said the opportunity “snuck up on him” and described his experience on the show as an “unexpected gift” and a “great joy.”

“Everything happened so fast,” he said. When I was selected, I was in Italy filming a TV series, so I didn't have time to figure out what was going on. So I just kind of threw myself into it.”

The actor also added that he and Collins became fast friends. He told the outlet, “Lily and I always worked together, so yeah, she's [my closest] friend.” He also gave a special shout-out to Collins in his Instagram post promoting the show, saying, “Thank you (to Andrew Fleming, director of ‘Emily in Paris’) and @lilyjcollins. You are special.
