Read MoreA close friend of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has told the Duke of Sussex's true story as he nears 40. [The Daily Mail's Bryony Gordon has spent time with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at their home and was once presented with Markle's homemade jam. [Eight years ago, I became friends with Prince Harry, and since then I have been bombarded with questions from people who want to know about his character, whether he is brainwashed, whether he intends to bring down the monarchy, whether he smells of money, etc.,” Gordon explained. And when I told them my honest opinion - that he was kind, funny, and, all things considered, a very normal person - their faces clouded with disappointment for a moment, followed quickly by a “well, you are saying that because you know him."
I often see this followed by words to the effect of ”Well, you know him, so you must say so.
Gordon added that he had heard negative things about Prince Harry in the press and online and decided “to write what I know about him in this column.”
“A lot of pretty negative things have been said about him, personality attacks that bear no resemblance to someone I've come to count as a friend, someone who cares passionately about our wounded veterans, and someone who has done more than anyone else to change perceptions of mental health in this country. I have heard,” Gordon wrote.
“They have no class or grace,” she continued, “and prefer nothing more than to see the worst in people and try to do nothing more than protect our children from an increasingly digital world.
“It's a world that forgets that no matter how high-profile you are, you're just doing your best, just like everyone else. This is not what people want to hear, but it is what I have found time and time again."[10In a recent statement to the BBC, the Duke of Sussex opened up about his upcoming birthday and how it compares to previous memorable birthdays.
“Thirty was anxious, forty is exciting,” he said at the time. No matter what age I am, my mission is to keep showing up and doing good in the world.” [17] [18] “Being the father of two incredibly sweet and funny children has not only given me a new perspective on life, it has sharpened my focus in everything I do,” he added, calling fatherhood “one of the greatest joys of my life.”
