New York Fashion Week's Spring 2025 Runway Revives Maximalist Beauty Trend
Beauty at New York Fashion Week over the past few seasons was subdued to say the least. Manicures were the norm with bare or monochromatic bubble bath nails. Hairstyles, with hair tied up in dainty chignons and the occasional bow, were the most attention-grabbing moments. But this September, designers seem ready to revive the maximalist beauty trend.
The Spring 2025 season has just begun, but already hints at a shift away from subtlety. Midnight blue eyeshadow and metallic liner have replaced the soft washes of glitter and light brown mascara of past seasons. Evidence of this can be seen in the glamorous “forest fairy”-inspired hairstyles at Christian Siriano, the “punk rock” hairstyles with gravity-defying strands at Elia, and the “touchglass” green tips at Corinna Strada, which were six-ft. long extensions of approximately 1.5 meters.
With notable shows like Coach, Tory Burch, and Michelle Kors scheduled for later in the week, standout beauty looks are sure to follow. The models' manicures took a similarly ethereal approach with a variety of floral-inspired press-ons. The collection was so dreamy and we wanted to do something similar. We hand-painted the lace as well, but Salon Perfect is the best at intimate designs,” says celebrity nail artist Miss Pop. 'I used Glazed Donut French and Pressed Floral Stickers to create this puffed blue floral edge and give it some dimension. I like flat-tipped tweezers, so I just scoop up the stickers and pop them on.”
Usually, a no-makeup runway look leaves little excitement. But Prabal Gurung's lead makeup artist, Syl Bruinsma, was determined to infuse a little drama into the understated look. Instead of playing with makeup that barely had a presence, she used an abundance of high-gloss enhancers to create a mirror-like reflective texture on the skin. [...] [...]
