Cobra Kai" Season 6, Part 2: Everything We Know
The end of one of Netflix's most popular shows, "Cobra Kai," has officially begun: in January 2023, Netflix announced that the "Karate Kid" reboot series will end after its sixth season. Rather than releasing the final episodes all at once, the company is following the tradition of splitting seasons of franchise shows. This means that Cobra Kai's return on July 18 is only the first of three parts that will make up the final season. Fortunately for fans, Season 6 Part 2 is only a few months away. Here is what we know about the show's future following the release of Season 6 Part 1.
Netflix has confirmed that the blockbuster final season of "Cobra Kai" will have 15 episodes, released in three installments of five episodes each, according to Variety. After the first five episodes debut on July 18, 2024, Season 6 Part 2 will appear on November 28, 2024.
The final five episodes will be released in 2025, but Netflix has not revealed the exact release date.
As for why the final season was split, "Cobra Kai" co-creator Hayden Schlossberg told TODAY that the split release was consistent with the way the series approaches plot arcs, and that 15 episodes was "the perfect number" to conclude the show He added that he felt that "it was the perfect number.
"In fact, every season of the show so far has been written with a five-episode story arc. 'Usually, it builds up to a mid-season climax, episode five, which kicks off the second half of the season. So it's kind of like, why not break it up into five episodes and have almost three mini-seasons, like Act 1, Act 2, and Act 3?"
"Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 1 spoilers ahead. In Season 6 Part 1, after the arrest of Terry Silver, the Valley's karate community went from a state of peace to a state of intense competition in anticipation of the international karate tournament "Sekai Taikai". Only six members of the Miyagi-Do (now affiliated with Cobra Kai and Eagle Fang alumni) have qualified for the tournament in Barcelona: Miguel, Samantha, Tory, Robbie, Devon, who sabotaged Kenny to earn a slot, and Demetri, who defeated former all-Valley winner Hawk.
But a few things shake up the game in episode 5. Tory's mother dies unexpectedly of kidney disease, and out of grief, Tory quits Miyagikido to make room in the field for Hawk. However, it turns out that Torrie will be competing in the tournament under the revived Cobra Kai, led by Master Kreis. And after escaping from prison at the end of Season 5, Kreis escapes to Korea, where he and Kim Down begin to form a team. With this big cliffhanger, Part 1 ends on the brink of the biggest tournament in Miyagi-do history.
Viewers can expect a large dose of karate action in Season 6, which resumes in November. In an interview with Tudum, co-creator Jon Hurwitz teased that the "middle five episodes" will be the "most combustible" episodes in the show's history, with many characters at odds (Hawk and Dimitri, Tory and Sam, and even Johnny and Daniel), and Kreis also adding fuel to the fire The plot is set.
"We get to meet new and exciting characters, we get to see all the flammable characters, and we get to see karate outside of ballet. How are they going to handle the pressure?' 'How are they going to handle the most intense karate fight of their lives with no harmony between them? Hurwitz added.
