Katie Holmes wears her favorite Madewell bag and ballet flats for an anti-trendy summer look

Katie Holmes can glam up the red carpet. She can also transform herself into a high-fashion glamazon at Paris Fashion Week. But it is on the streets where this style icon really shines. Holmes' off-duty look is simple, frill-free, and undeniably chic.

Yesterday, July 22, Katie Holmes was spotted in one of her classic, anti-trend summer outfit formulas: black T-shirt, loose white khakis, leather ballet flats, and a large bag. Her pants were a sub-$100 find from Banana Republic, and her accessories were a Madewell tote bag and Mansur Gavriel black ballet flats, sticking to the outfits of the past.

Holmes has worn different versions of this outfit throughout the summer; in June, she wore a relaxed yellow T-shirt, white wide-leg jeans, a canvas weekender bag with leather trim, and dainty black travel outfit consisting of cap toe ballet flat shoes.

Although the actress loves her flat shoes, her baseball cap collection is the star of her summer street style. Yesterday's look included an almost distressed gray acid-washed denim cap with “Canyons” written in a large green font. Last week, she dressed down her tropical matching set with a royal blue Gap x Dôen baseball cap and flats, re-contextualizing her vacation-appropriate outfit in the city.

The look was a combination of a mustard yellow and white striped oversized half button button up, high waisted denim shorts, brown fisherman sandals, and a black Tribeca Film Festival dado hat.

Holmes is a self-confessed clothes repeater, and aside from a few formal moments in head-to-toe sheer Chanel and effortless bohemian maxi dresses, the strong motif in her summer wardrobe is no surprise.
