Katie Holmes Swaps Tropical Heatwave Floral for Elegant Neutral Sundress

Katie Holmes once again elevates her summer 2024 wardrobe. This time, she ditches the trendy heatwave florals for timeless, always elegant neutral sundresses.

On Thursday, July 18, Mato founders Ilona Hammer and Peta Heinsen hosted a cocktail party at Gem Wine to celebrate summer in New York City. The event was a spectacular affair, featuring Ilona Hammer, Peta Heinsen, Tyrin Nguyen, Alexandra Agoston, and a host of Hollywood A-listers like the one and only Holmes.

To celebrate the brand, Holmes wore a birch shearling plunge button dress, highlighting a carefree summer style that was more toned down than her previous tender-approved Summer 2024 outfit.

On Thursday, July 18, the actress was spotted near her Soho apartment on Manhattan's Upper West Side wearing a Faithfull the Brand set printed with Bali inspired flora and fauna.

She paired the summery fit with plum Yumi Buffa ballet flats, a Madewell bucket tote, and a blue baseball cap from the Gap x Dôen collaboration.

In June, she showed her easygoing side in a simple tank top and slouchy pants when she attended the New York Tribeca Film Festival luncheon hosted by Chanel.

Thanks to stylist Bree Welch, Holmes updated her basic ribbed tank top into a painterly floral version and tucked it into extra wide-leg pants with tiny beaded flowers that matched the top.

In honor of the luncheon hosts, Holmes carried a cross-body Chanel mini bag and belted her pants with a Y2K chain belt. Pointed-toe heels, presumably from the host brand, completed her less-is-more, minimalist-girl summer uniform.

In a recent interview with The Times, the actress opened up about her ever-changing sense of style.

“I really look at other people who have a natural sense of style. And I'm like, 'Oh, that's it! OK, cool. I'm always looking for inspiration. I like to mix and match classic pieces. I love vintage. Living in New York, it has to be practical and comfortable. The city influences my style. I usually wear ballet flats, sneakers, baggy jeans, and a t-shirt. I like to put that together without looking like how I made it."

Holmes says that she really learned about fashion ‘from working in television and film,’ and as an actress, she ”worked with great costume designers and saw how a character could wear a plain sweater with

She continued that it was partly because she had the pleasure of “having them explain to me what it meant if a character wore a cable-knit sweater over a plain sweater, and how it revealed a part of that person.

She also admitted that becoming a mother changed her approach to fashion, especially in her daily life.

“When my kids were really little, I was drawn to wearing lots of dresses. As you go through different stages of motherhood, you figure out what you're comfortable with and what you're not, and I think that's what I'm trying to do. So over the years my style has changed all over the place.”
