Read MoreMeghan Markle touched down in Nigeria on Friday, May 10, for a three-day tour with husband Prince Harry. The first look, by stylist Jamie Mizrahi, represents a new wardrobe era for Markle.
For the welcoming remarks and event at the GEANCO Foundation's inaugural Mental Health Summit (a cause dear to both Sussex families), Markle shined in a peach sundress floor-length by California designer Heidi Merrick. The sleeveless dress featured a high neckline in the front and a slightly cut-out back. (Underneath, she reportedly wore sandals by Emme Parsons.
Originally released in 2018, the dress had an eyebrow-raising detail: it was originally called "Windsor," the same name as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's estranged family, including King Charles, Prince William, and Princess Kate.
Heidi Merrick has been a notable presence in Markle's recent style era. She wore a white cutout halter dress by this designer to cheer on Prince Harry at the Sentebale polo match last month. She also covers up with Heidi Merrick sunglasses when out in the sun in March and April.
To play up the warm, spring tones of her outfit, Markle adorned her peach dress with several pieces of gold jewelry. These included an Ariel Gordon bracelet, a pinky signet ring, an Aurato collar necklace, and large medallion earrings. For her most recent outing, she wore vintage statement jewelry by Chanel, but this time she opted for vintage jewelry by Lanvin.
Between the slim-fitting silhouette, sleeveless design, and bold yet noble jewelry, Markle's first outfit on the Nigeria tour checks all the boxes for a look from Jamie Mizrahi's styling days. The two, who began working together earlier this spring, have teamed up on outfits with a Hollywood edge, like the backless black St. Agni dress worn by the Duchess last month. Markle's personal style change comes just as she is embarking on new business ventures, including launching a lifestyle brand and producing two Netflix series.
During their three-day visit to Nigeria, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will visit a local charity that is part of the "Invictus Community" (an organization for wounded veterans co-founded by Prince Harry). Being the Duchess of Sussex, today's outfit is just the first in a series of outfits that will show the world her new personal style direction. And perhaps there will be layers to her look: when she travels, Markle often brings designer items that have ties to the cause she is representing or the place she is visiting.
