Katie Holmes elevates her wardrobe basics with a white button-down shirt

Katie Holmes finds a way to freshen up an otherwise clichéd outfit that is perfect for Monday mornings. For wardrobe basics like sweaters and slacks, she pairs them with blueberry-colored mary janes; for T-shirts and denim, she embroiders them with embroidery and coordinates them with the new sneaker trend. And as for the classic white button-down, Holmes seeks out a version of the timeless staple that looks like no one else on the sidewalks of Manhattan.

Holmes ran errands in New York City earlier in the week on Monday, April 29, playfully swapping his standard shirt for a white button-down from the Danish label Munthe. Where most designers would have added a simple breast pocket, Holmes' shirt had a spring-like illustration of a donkey (cute!). (Cute! (Cute!) Her tops also had contrasting black buttons and piping on the cuffs.

To complete the easygoing look, Holmes added relaxed single-pleat pants, a cross-body bag, and her best loafers, courtesy of Gucci.

Holmes' daytime look included several of her wardrobe heroes. Working with her longtime stylist, Bree Welch, she found several items she liked so much that she owns them in multiple colors. The shoes most often seen in her street style are Gucci loafers, recently featured in Taylor Swift's "Fortnight" video, in either black or white. Just a week ago, Holmes wore her black pair with a coordinating trench coat, Isabel Marant distressed jeans, and a solid black tote bag. The [Dawson's Creek] star also has a growing collection of bags for everyday use. Her oversized Mansur Gavriel bag is her most commonly worn bag, but recently she has been using a Saint Laurent bag in rotation. Today's camel-colored crossbody has yet to be identified, but its sleek design and hardware clasp are typical of Holmes' attire when running errands (simple and functional. (Simple and functional, but always prestigious.)

The basics of Holmes' not-so-basic wardrobe are from labels not often found in an actress' closet. In fact, this may be the first time a Copenhagen Fashion Week designer has appeared in her street style lineup.

Munthe is a 30-year-old independent brand based in the Danish capital, known for items that incorporate visual art into everyday designs, such as a button-down featuring a cartoon donkey.

Munthe is a new brand for Katie Holmes, but she has deep ties to the fashion world. Last February, Alana Hadid (Gigi and Bella's sister) walked the label's Fall 2024 runway.
