Dakota Johnson Test Drives Popular Spring Outfits for Gen-Z

At 34, Dakota Johnson is technically a millennial. But that didn't stop her from wearing some of Gen Z's favorite outfits. In fact, Johnson proves that small tops and big pants are a winning combo for any generation.

On the set of her upcoming film "The Materialist" on Monday (April 29), the actress looked ready for a romantic-comedy moment in a black cropped high-neck tank top and high-waisted, wide-leg blue jeans. She kept it simple with gold wired square-oval Gucci shades, silver heart pendants, small silver hoops, and another Gen-Z favorite, Adidas Samba OG sneakers.

This look fits nicely into Dakota Johnson's off-the-street style guide. She loves casual looks and loose-fitting denim. She has been wearing oversized utility jackets a lot in recent months, but as the weather warms up, her tops will shrink with it.

Johnson's attire puts a sophisticated slant on the tiny tops and big pants look, giving the current style an almost vintage appeal. Her Triarchy Mr. Onassis wide-leg jeans, with their sailor-pant silhouette, are truly retro. [Of course, Johnson isn't the only millennial celebrity opting for a small shirt and big pants. A few weeks ago, Emily Ratakowski, something of a small top and big pants enthusiast, was spotted in parachute pants and a sports bra. (Like Johnson, she also wore Adidas Samba.) Kendall Jenner, the sharp end of the Gen Z millennial generation, is also a supporter of the trend.

In January, Johnson took another Gen Z TikTok trend, the "mafia wife" aesthetic, and reworked it into "mafia boss." She wore Bottega Veneta from head to toe and a baggy black suit with white pinstripes.
