Read MoreKatie Holmes' street style is head-to-toe. On her feet, it's either Gucci loafers or some It sneakers. Over the weekend, she also favored an easy outfit, but this time she traded in her typical shoes for a fresh spring shoe trend.
On Sunday, April 21, Holmes walked Manhattan in a new shoe trend: blueberry-toned velvet-coated Mary Janes. The unexpected choice of shoes was a nice touch to an understated outfit of a teddy-textured crew-neck sweater and straight-leg jeans. (Holmes' stylist, Bree Welch, may have been behind this off-duty look.)
Holmes went for a one-of-a-kind look. He replaced his trusty Mansur Gavriel tote bag with a Saint Laurent hobo bag with oversized logo detailing on the side. (Are we studying Jennifer Lopez's formula for high-low accessories?)
The mary jane has infiltrated luxury fashion and street style in recent seasons, with designers from Miu Miu to Chanel presenting cap-toe and embellished shoes in their runway collections. A growing number of shoe brands are also presenting candy-toned mary janes like Holmes' Vivi Venezia, including insider favorites Le Monde Beryl and French label Flabelles.
Now that Holmes has found a version to incorporate into spring outfits, street style watchers will likely see them again soon. The "Dawson's Creek" star is not shy about re-wearing items he finds to his liking. Take her favorite pair of black Gucci loafers, for example, which she wore twice last week (probably to coordinate with Taylor Swift, who wore them in the "Fortnight" music video on Friday). First with a camel trench coat and straight-leg jeans, and then with a black coat and Isabel Marant printed denim.
Holmes is also known as a fan of It sneakers, including the Adidas Samba. He wears the black and white striped sneakers on a weekly basis and often pairs them with his trusty camel outerwear. He also dabbles in over-the-top collaborations and chunky sneakers, as Nike recently did with Bode.
Holmes is never shy about copying and pasting items from outfit to outfit. Take a look: the first taste of the Mary Jane trend is going to be a parade of outfits finished off with a pair of hers.
