An “unusual” hobby enjoyed by Queen Camilla until tragedy struck in 2024.
Much has been written about the hobbies enjoyed by members of the Royal Family. For example, Tom Parker Bowles, son of Queen Camilla, said that his mo...
Read MoreZendaya was busy promoting "Challengers" in New York, appearing on talk shows, meeting with fans, and strolling for the paparazzi cameras, wearing eight outfits in two days. Her ninth look (by my count) broke her pattern of modern custom pieces and runway vintage with a one-of-a-kind archival dress, nearly 100 years old.
Lo Loach and Zendaya showed off their affinity for fashion throwbacks with items dating back to the 1930s, which she pulled out on Wednesday, April 24, to go to the members' club Zero Bond, in a semi-transparent midi-dress of wispy, flowing fabric, It had a ruffled jacket tied over the top. The dress was paired with Gianvito Rossi sandals in coordinating green.
Sweet Disorder Vintage, a luxury consignment store, confirmed that Lo Roach pulled the piece for Zendaya almost a year ago. (The piece first appeared on Sweet Disorder's Instagram in June 2023.)
"Thank you @luxurylaw for seeing the beauty in this piece," the store owner wrote in the caption of a post highlighting Zendaya's look.
"A set of 1930s dresses I found in an old trunk were hand-dyed by me in the perfect shade of green."Archival objects are rare but skillfully used on Zendaya's Challengers tour. In Paris, she paid homage to a local legend (and her brand deal) by wearing two looks from Marc Jacobs' Louis Vuitton collection. These included a checkerboard coat dress from the Spring 2013 collection and a silky chartreuse set from the Spring 1999 collection.
And in London, Zendaya paid homage to Vivienne Westwood - another designer synonymous with the city's fashion scene - with a pinstripe, feathertail set from the 1994 "Cafe Society" collection.
Zendaya and Lo Roach have incorporated vintage pieces into their "method dressing" approach on several press tours. Earlier this year, the fantastical sci-fi setting of "Dune: Part 2" was enlivened by rarely seen pieces by Mugler and Givenchy.
But the two were also not afraid to play with brand new items for Zendaya's Wimbledon Codes Challengers outfit. In New York, ready-to-wear items included a Longchamp skirt, a Tory Burch tennis set, and a Loewe T-shirt, as well as custom items like Alaia's hooded dress in tennis white.
All of these looks were likely intended for the final red carpet before the Challengers premiere nationwide on Friday, April 26. While Zendaya's 100-year-old dress cannot be recreated, the vintage-inspired items, such as the riccors and reformations, come close. They can be purchased at.
