Read MoreFresh off her Coachella gig last weekend, Rihanna is dabbling in a new aesthetic across continents. She celebrated the latest drop of her Fenty x Puma "Creeper Phatty" sneakers in London last night in a minimal jumpsuit, a quiet luxury style that is uniquely Rihanna.
On Wednesday, April 17, the multi-hyphenate arrived at London's Tobacco Dock wearing an oversized dark gray jumpsuit from Peter Do's Fall/Winter 2024 collection. She layered a light gray, ultra-baggy tailored jacket, also from the brand, over the dress.
The Anti singer also wore the new Fenty x Puma Earth Tone sneakers in chocolate brown.
Styled by Rob Zangardi and Marielle Hehn, her outfit was completed with huge Tom Ford sunglasses, a custom "mom" ring from California-based brand XIV Carat, and a black mini purse from Balmain.
The 36-year-old also showed off her new hair color on the red carpet, choosing a few shades lighter than the honey gold she wore at Coachella a few days earlier. She wore her bangs long, and she accessorized her new hairstyle with a bright red lip and rose-pink blush.
Rihanna leaned toward minimalism for a reason. On the red carpet, she unveiled The Creeper Phatty, a new colorway in taupe, green fog, and warm white. The perfume shoe is available in women's, men's, kids', and toddler sizes and is priced at $140.
In Rihanna's style file, this look was a hard left turn. While Lili's all-gray uniform last night embodied quiet luxury with an androgynous twist, her festival look last weekend consisted of casual wear paired with an unlikely statement outerwear: a fur coat.
On Sunday, she made a surprise appearance from the VIP section when her partner, A$AP Rocky, headlined Doja Cat. There, she was photographed wearing a gray vintage graphic T-shirt, a khaki cargo maxi skirt, and an elaborate fur coat wrapped around her shoulders.
Coachella is not the only place where Rihanna is clashing prints and experimenting with exaggerated silhouettes. In recent weeks, she has also been out and about in Los Angeles in mix-and-match leopard prints, deconstructed black dresses, and even more fur coats.
Rihanna's affinity for baggy looks did not come without trial and error. On the red carpet last night, she told British Vogue that one of her biggest fashion regrets was wearing the same oversized suit.
"Oh my, it's kind of ironic that it was similar to this," she says of the look she wore to the 2017 Parsons School of Design Benefit. It was a brown tan suit, and people really liked it, but the day I wore it, I was like, 'Hmm, I look like a UPS driver,' and it wasn't pretty. Not for the red carpet anyway."
Rihanna's next carpet appearance will be an even bigger fashion moment. She will be attending the 2024 Met Gala on Monday, May 6. And, being Rihanna, her maximalist tendencies will be back for this occasion.
