Item to wear to death: Ralph Lauren corduroy blazer

When I moved to New York the summer after college for an internship at an advertising agency, one of the first things I realized was that I could no longer do without a closet full of T-shirts and leggings. Sure, I had a dedicated wardrobe section for office wear thanks to past internships, but working full time and interviewing for new positions meant that I was stuck quickly and frequently repeating outfits. To escape the deja vu of my closet on a shoestring budget, I started looking for vintage clothing. Lucky for me, New York City is a great place to find vintage clothing on a limited budget.
This Ralph Lauren corduroy blazer was actually a previous find of mine. I found it while browsing the racks of recent arrivals at a store in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I didn't need to look in the mirror after I put it on to know that it fit perfectly. Seriously, the cut of this blazer is truly a dream. The shoulders and waist are defined and it looks great buttoned up or worn open in the front. I knew right away that this item was the one for me.
I took it to the cashier along with a few other items that day. I remember the woman who cashed me in commented that they had just arrived and would not last long. I rode the subway back to my shared apartment and carefully hung the blazer in the "office" section of my closet. It was summer, so it was too early to add it to my rotation, but I knew cooler weather would soon be upon us.
Since that season, I have worn this blazer countless times. Whether it's for interviews (including one at Marie Claire!) ), to happy hour, and to the office. In the fall, I love wearing it over a t-shirt and jeans. In the winter, I layer it under a wool coat. Perhaps the best thing about corduroy is its resilience. No matter how many times I wear it, it doesn't fade, tear, or fray. This is a good thing, and I don't plan to stop wearing it anytime soon!
I bought mine thrifted, so I probably won't get it exactly right.
