How to Become More Spiritual in 2020
We're only a few years away from 2020, but it's time to think about what you really want to do in this decade Think about where you were 10 years ago: what's changed? What has changed. Bringing a little more spirituality into your life may be the change you're looking for.
Let's start by breaking down what spirituality means here: the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as "of, pertaining to, consisting of, or affecting the spirit." Spirit, on the other hand, is defined as "life-giving power." In other words, what I want to focus on is your personal life-giving force, the one that moves you forward and helps you through dark times. This is not a list about religion, but rather about finding what gives you life. Hopefully, each of these will feed and nourish you and help you become the best you can be.
Embrace your Spirit (if you haven't already) and see how deep you can go inside. Give yourself a lot of love, and as you radiate, others will take notice and eventually your light will shine on others. Block your ex, cut out toxic friends, release family trauma, invest in yourself, and realize it's time to focus your energy on yourself. I promise you it will lead to the greatest ROI.
Here are some activities you can try to increase your spirituality and become more in tune with your true needs and desires as a human being. Try any (or all) of them and expect your life to change for the better.
Often in our day-to-day lives, things can get crazy and overwhelming. Work, family, friends, dating, volunteering, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, etc. Writing a gratitude journal can help you stay in control. Every night before bed, write down three things you are grateful for. At one wellness retreat, a woman encouraged participants to write down three things they were grateful for for 21 days without repeating themselves.
Please, please, put down your cell phone. Step into nature, take a hike, or try Earthing (taking off your shoes and walking on the dirt to relieve stress and clear your mind).
Much research (open in new tab) has been done on the benefits of Earthing and forest bathing. Known in Japan as "forest bathing," it is the art and science of how Mother Nature, trees, and plants promote human health and well-being. Embrace your inner cave woman.
Meditation was not easy for me. I tried and stopped for years. Eventually I started taking classes with a wonderful teacher, Roman Gonzalez, at a nice little local store called Aura's World (opens in new tab). The key is consistency. Even if it's only 5 minutes, daily or weekly. Before you know it, you will be able to let go of what you no longer need to live your highest purpose.
Spirituality is not easy. It took me months to understand why I was doing what I was doing and how much I benefited from it. Make time to head inside and listen to your own thoughts; there are plenty of hotels like Getaway House (opens in a new tab) that offer retreats to attend and unplug. Or drive to the coast and do nothing but sit on the beach all day. Disconnect and have time to face yourself.
Affirmations are nothing new; we all saw Charlotte in "SATC" trying to manifest love over a decade ago. But the benefits of affirmations are no joke. Affirmations help us keep things in perspective, focus on being positive, and set our intentions. (opens in new tab) The law of attraction is real (ask Rizzo (opens in new tab)) and it works for good and bad.
As you become more spiritual, you will find that energy is all around you. Your intuition speaks to you and it is your job to trust and follow it. Don't worry, your intuition has nothing in mind but your best interest.
This should go without saying, but don't lie. You know the saying, "The truth will set you free. It really does. If you are honest about your feelings, you will attract what you want in life and continue to make space for it.
Being spiritual is not only about helping yourself, but also about helping others. Many people think that the best way to help others is through monetary donations, but simply donating time, skills, or manpower is also enough. You would be surprised how helping someone else can ultimately help you grow and become a better person.
Reiki, sound baths, cleansing: ...... You name the latest "woo-woo" experience and I'll give it a try. Even if it isn't what I was hoping for. Every time I try something new, I leave with a greater appreciation for the technology and a deeper understanding of myself.
Remember, there is no right or wrong way to practice becoming a more spiritual person. Just wake up every day and do your best. Eventually, you won't have to work as hard, and everything will become a routine of your rich and wonderful life.
