What happened to John Finlay, ex-husband of Joe Exotic in Tiger King?

Tiger King spoilers ahead John Finlay, the second husband of "Joe Exotic" (real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage), is a fan favorite in Netflix's "Tiger King" documentary, which was released on March 20 (in new tab (opens in new tab). For those who don't know, let me explain: the documentary follows Joe Exotic, who at one time owned a makeshift zoo with 90 tigers and 1,000 animals (opens in new tab). Exotic is a fascinating figure: an outspoken (opens in new tab) homosexual, married to four different people, Oklahoma governor and presidential candidate, convicted and currently serving time for animal cruelty and hiring people to murder animal rights activists. Finlay, who speaks openly about his relationship with Exotic and their relationship, is Exotic's second husband and is no longer married to him, although he did have a third person, discussed below, in their marriage. He comes across in the series as a likable character, and fans are eager to know: what happened to him?

Finlay worked at Joe Exotic's zoo, and the two became romantically involved in 2003 (Exotic's first husband, Brian Line, died of HIV complications in 2001). As the program reveals, they had a complicated relationship.

Finlay lost many teeth, which, by his own admission, may have been due to his use of meth. Many fans of the show also love his quiet and kind nature, which is clearly the opposite of the exotic's character and behavior.

As for their relationship, let me quote from an article in Newsweek magazine (opens in new tab):

After many attempts to open their relationship to a third party (as Finlay discusses early in the Netflix documentary), they meet another young, farm-working They became a couple with a troubled worker, Travis Maldonado; they married in 2014 and had a ceremony in "Tiger King" (which you can watch in its entirety on Joe's YouTube page), but Maldonado and the exotic left the marriage when Finlay got a fellow zoo worker pregnant and Because of this, the two eventually remarried.

Here is a still from that wedding:

Sadly, Maldonado died in a gun accident shortly thereafter.

Joe Exotic author and podcaster Robert Moore initially tweeted good news about Finlay, but had to revise it after Finlay asked him to delete it. (Moore wrote: "Lots of people asking about Joe's ex-husband John. He emailed me a few months ago to tell me he got a new job as a welder. And he's got pearly white teeth.

From that little bit of information, he seems to be doing well. But the fact that Finlay is succeeding through all of this seems like modest good news.

Watching Finlay's interview in "Tiger King," it was hard not to notice his teeth.

Since Tiger King premiered, photos of Finlay's new and improved smile have gone viral; according to TMZ (opens in new tab), Finlay actually had his teeth redone in one session in July 2019, and Tiger King producers had the dental work completed It claims that even though they had footage of him filmed after it was done, they chose not to use it.

According to Us Weekly, "Yes, I fixed my teeth," Finlay wrote on Facebook (opens in new tab).

"The producers of the Netflix series had this video and photo but chose not to show it."
