On Friday, news broke that Clare Waight Keller is leaving Givenchy: the Fall/Winter 2020 collection presented in Paris on March 1 (opens in new tab) will be her last after three years at the famed house. As the Maison's first female creative director, her collections remained true to the brand's DNA: sensual, feminine, romantic, but with a slight edge.

During her brief tenure, one of the British designer's most memorable moments was working on Meghan Markle's wedding dress, a masterpiece that took 3,900 hours (open in new tab) to complete, was seen by millions and praised by many observers. Prior to Givenchy, Keller was highly regarded at Chloé and is credited with bringing the bohemian, feminine taste of the 1970s to Chloé.

On her departure, Keller released a statement: "As the first female artistic director of this legendary house, I feel honored to be given the opportunity to cherish its legacy and breathe new life into it. [LVMH Chairman and CEO Sidney Toledano thanked Keller for her contributions, saying she has brought the brand back to the elegant aesthetic once created by Hubert de Givenchy.

While the reason for her departure remains unknown (as of now, fans are under the impression that her contract is up), it is clear that in her life before COVID-19, fashion was always a game of musical chairs. Now, that game seems to be back. With Keller's killer background and romantic vision, any fashion house would be lucky to land her. And that's what we call winning.
