You're stressed, and so is your skin. Everything that happens on the outside is a reflection of what is happening on the inside. But it's okay. Beauty products like Kate Somerville's latest Recovery Cream can help save your skin in the most difficult of times, like this surreal experience we're all going through together. Whether it's a breaking news trigger, a comfort food you've been indulging in, or a new product you've been overdoing, a multitude of factors are affecting your skin right now, and this recovery cream is here to solve all kinds of ailments that have erupted. Think of it as damage control for overstressed skin, redness, inflammation, irritation, dryness, tightness, etc.

This cream is part of Kate Somerville's newest collection, Delicatessen (opens in new tab): this cream is part of Kate Somerville's newest collection, Delicatessen, which is designed for those with inflamed, sensitive skin and the calming and soothing ingredients Needed. The collection consists of a cleanser (open in new tab) ($38), a serum (open in new tab) ($85), and this cream (my absolute favorite), which work together or individually to soothe and smooth your skin concerns. These targeted products are problem solvers and are also known as 911 products to call upon when the skin shit really hits the fan.

Made with a peptide complex and ceramides, this recovery cream helps heal redness and inflammation while strengthening the skin's barrier against environmental stress and dryness. It is enriched with Tasmanian lanceolate extract, which helps to relax the skin. And it is completely fragrance-free. Basically, it is a simple, no nonsense moisturizer that provides pleasant skin on demand.

Although this product is officially called a soothing cream, I call it a crisis cream. We are all trying to stay positive while in isolation, but being confined to four walls is not the most skin-friendly environment. I am grateful for the plant-filled room that has been burning copious amounts of candles for the past six weeks, but not for the oversized window that towers over my side of the bed, causing rough, dry, inflamed spots to appear all over my skin. This view is great for natural light, but not so great for protecting my skin. My skin is exposed to direct UV rays, and the humidity-sucking air in the room strips it of every last bit of moisture.

When I first felt this kind of skin irritation, I tried using a double dose of moisturizer before bed for cosmetic reasons. It was painful and distracting and needed to be fixed immediately. Somerville taught me to use this spot treatment right before bed. So one night I dabbed a small amount onto the rough spots and hoped for the best. The next morning, to my surprise, eight hours later, my rough spots were soft and perfectly moist. And not a single urge to itch. It was a miracle.

Two weeks later, all signs of the catastrophic patch were gone. Since then, I haven't itched, complained to my loving boyfriend, or taken sad pictures of my skin to send to my mother. I also love the weightless feel of the product. It's worth the $80 because a small amount works wonders. Consider my skin saved. I will be forever grateful to Somerville.

Another reason worth supporting: the brand is partnering with World Central Kitchen's #ChefsForAmerica COVID-19 Food Relief, which will donate a portion of the sales of its delicatessen.
